For close to two years, in all my mails to mailing lists, I had a line that went like ...
an individual are not necessarily those of UbiNetics
in the signature. A few people even asked me what "that stupid thing" meant.
The presence of that line would avoid the heavy disclaimer that would otherwise be attached to each outgoing email. The IT department warned me (and a lot of others who were using it because they found the idea cool) not to use that any more and I was under the impression that it was a "danda" from the legal department.
A few days ago, a friend of mine in the IT told me that it wasn't the legal guys but the HR. I got curious and went to the HR asking them what prompted them to do that. The HR person told me that a certain guy, who joined long after I started using that line (and left the company recently) thought that it was the official motto/statement kind of a thing of the company. He cribbed in the exit interview saying that the company has no regard for its employees because the official statement is that "individuals are not necessarily a part of ...". And so the HR was like "Grrr ... Giridhar, you dunnit!".
I could not help but laugh at the situation. So now I am using this in the emails.
