The Galden Namgyel Lhatse monastery (popularly known as the Tawang Gompa) is a majestic structure that overlooks the Tawang town in Arunachal Pradesh. The monastery is at about 10,000 ft above sea level and was built deriving inspiration from the Drepung Gompa in Lhasa, Tibet. Apart from being the second largest, it is one of the oldest monasteries in the world.
The attraction at Tawang Gompa is the three-storeyed assembly hall, which has a 26-feet high gold coated Buddha. A few pictures from inside the hall.
