A few political thoughts...
War is a strange thing. As soon as the term "War" is thrown out into the open the rules of engagement between two bodies hugely change. No longer is it wrong to invade a country, or murder a soldier, or burn down villages. War is the official term which allows governments to bypass many human rights laws and international regulations. So why does it exist?!
It's a loophole that allows countries to become the lesser of two evils. They hit back against aggression using equal or sometimes overwhelming force, yet they sit on their high-horses claiming that what they are doing is right, just and (above all) legal.
Of course, most of you must know I'm referring to Lebanon and Israel. Lebanon invade Israel and kidnap 2 Israeli soldiers, Israel begin bombing targets in Lebanon and destorying cities. Now, I find this a hopeless moral situation. Lebanon was completely wrong in their actions, yet Israel's reaction is wrong also, because Israel has a mighty military force, whereas Lebanon does not. To invade Lebanon and bomb their people is wrong, because they cannot defend themselves in the same way Israel can.
I don't know, the whole situation is stupidly complicated and it will never become peace. Israel are too jittery and paranoid, whereas the arab states have too much hatred over their annexed land. Neither side will just get over it, and neither side will listen to negotiations. So sad.
Anywho, on a point more close to home - our Trident nuclear deterrant force is up for retirement soon! Which means that Blair gets to spend a whole chunk of our money on some shiny new nuclear warheads! Yay! Just what I always wanted for Christmas!
A marvellous question was asked on Wednesday to Blair - See, we signed a treaty in the 1970s with the 5 largest nuclear powers, that stated that we would persue a constant policy of disarmanment. Now Trident is up for retirement, we undermine the legality and the honor of our treaty by simply rebuilding the entire force exactly how it was. Not only that, but in doing so we completely lose any hope of a moral high ground, in convincing other states to not set up a nuclear deterrant force.
Bah.
Politics is a strange demon. Ever changing and ever annoying me. But damn it's fascinating to watch the human race tear itself apart, brick by brick.
