That was so amazing that Matthew betrayed Alfred. In hindsight, I can totally see the clues... but I completely mistook them when I was reading. I did keep thinking, however, "gosh, Mattie, why don't you just bind him?!?! It will never end until someone does! And it might as well be Alfred's nice, sweet brother!" When it was clear that Matthew had done just that, I was proud of him at first because I thought he had seen the futility of trying to hide Al forever. Betrayal hadn't occurred to me! D'oh!
I am curious though. Matthew said that now Alfred knows what it feels like to be betrayed. Does that mean Alfred had betrayed him? When was that? 1812 or the Revolution? Or was it referring to something else?
I love the ending! Even though I hate angsty endings, I loved that Alfred's people could still feel him and love him! I loved that glimmer of hope that makes want to shout "America! Fuck yeah!" XD
