I know several people have mentioned they can't imagine what it's like to go through what I am. It occurred to me to try to describe it, at least what it's been like. Here goes...
That's an amazing assessment. And it rings so true, particularly the illness metaphor. Because you reach that point where you feel a little better within the comfort zone, but as soon as you add any stress to it, you remember how sick - how hurt - you really are. And that you have to keep taking care of yourself even when you feel like it should be okay. Because it's not going to be for a long time, and you shouldn't feel obligated to make it be okay.
Thanks, Zoethe. It still doesn't quite catch it, but it's at least a start. It is hard to remember how sick, how hurt, I really am. I still try to hold to the metaphor of dealing with a stroke, and you don't get over a bad one of those in just a few months. Trying to push it won't help; it'll just make it worse. Soemtimes I think it helps to be able to share that understanding with others around us who don't quite understand that.
Pretty much going to have to echo Zoethe's comments.... gythiawulfieJuly 7 2011, 16:46:14 UTC
You can't describe it to a T because it is ever changing and ever shifting, much like an illness. You get better, but you can relapse, and you never know what is going to cause you to relapse.

True enough. Besides, there are some experiences that we just don't have words for. You can hint at them with what we've got, but it's always going to fall short, in one way or other.
And, yeah, you never know what'll trigger it off. I'm guessing we get better at knowing some of the things that are likely to, but there'll always, ALWAYS be some that'll be a surprise.
