finding nature in the strangest of places

i was in LA from saturday to wednesday. i really hate LA, it has this really individualistic culture, i feel. there's very little public transit, so everyone drives everywhere. the little "communities" are really spread out, no one walks around, and it takes an hour (or more) to get anywhere. everyone is somehow connected to the entertainment industry--even if one is not directly involved with the industry, s/he is necessarily exposed to it on a daily basis.

i just really loathe the city of los angeles. no offense to those who love it--it's just not a city for me.

that said, i had to be there to see my family for a few days. on my last night, though, my good friend rose (aka christina) picked me up and took me all the way out to the camp that she runs and lives at. to get there, we had to drive out of LA, through the suburbs (CRAZY place, man, exactly like they seem on "weeds") and out to the camp.

it was lovely. we stared at the full moon, though it was too cold for her normal naked-dancing-baying-at-the-full-moon hippie ritual. we walked around. we got a bit..."altered" and i dug clay out of the mud in front of her house. (seriously, natural clay is the best shit ever and it was SO cool to just find there.) we listened to music. we evaluated our values. we talked for hours. we hung out with her adorable dog and sat outside in the amazing weather.

who would have known that i would find nature during my trip to what otherwise seems to be an uber-modern, natureless city?

old friends, old trees, new memories. 5-day long trip, one day of an amazing experience.

but, i must say, it feels great to be back in brooklyn. :)
