So here I am at work, writing an entry. I’m writing in word and will then copy and past into LJ, so it looks and feels rather odd to be writing an LJ entry and not a paper…ANYWAY (lol random!) work.

I LOVE MY JOB!!! I never thought I’d be able to say that I’m actually enjoying an OFFICE job. Who knew, right?! Well, I love to write and that’s pretty much what I do all day, and I have a comfy office to do it in with great people so…yeah. <3

Basically, I work for the EEOC: Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. It’s a federal agency that aims to fight discrimination in the workplace. Not only is this an awesome goal, but it does it in some pretty cool ways. To deal with the private sector (normal, non-government employers) the EEOC has lawyers and investigators who represent and investigate claims of employment discrimination and bring those claims in civil court. The other half of the EEOC is the Hearings Department, which deals with discrimination in and by government agencies. In these cases, an employee brings a claim of discrimination to the agency, who must then investigate the claim. If no resolution is reached (i.e., 99% of the time) the claim goes to an Administrative Judge within the EEOC. That judge decides the case either on summary judgment (when the parties don’t disagree on the facts) or after a hearing (when the facts must be argued and determined). My job is working for one of the judges-I write briefs (analyses of cases) and decisions!

Pretty. Fucking. Cool.

One problem: I’m exhausted.

Another problem: I got my grades last night…or early this morning (i.e., 2am). They’re not horrible, I’m pretty sure I’m in the top half of the class, but they’re not great. I did, however, get an A- in Civil Procedure, which is freakin’ awesome…especially because it’s what I want to DO with my life!!! (Employment discrimination = civil side of the law, hence civil procedure is VERY important.) But whatever. Trying not to focus on that…

Now: back to writing this decision. Which, unfortunately, I really don’t want to do because I LOATHE this particular complainant. (WHINEY BITCH WITH NO REAL CLAIM, WTF?!)
