OK, so... I must say that part of me wants to be a comedian. A somewhat lesser part of me wants to be a sketch comic writer- but this, I know, will never happen. That doesn't bother me so much, however I do find that it's a small dream that resides in the back of my mind. It makes me watch almost every sitcom pilot, stalk comedy central, and live for Bravo! comedy specials.
It also makes me LOVE Tina Fey. Tina Fey is a very intelligent, witty, pretty, moral, hilarious, and gorgeous woman (see icon). She wrote "Mean Girls," which I thought was not only hilarious, but socially responsible. The film had a moral message geared towards the bitchiest of the bitchy- teen girls- but did not lose sight of what those very teens enjoy: sex, pretty girls, hot boys, drama, humor, and a great soundtrack.
Now, Fey is back with a vengeance. Her new sitcom "30 Rock," which she not only writes for, but stars in as well, is one of the only witty, intelligent comedies on the market today. "30 Rock" mixes smart dialogue, social commentary, and slap-stick laughs to yield a shockingly (or maybe not) wonderful half hour of television.
What made me go on this rant? The most recent episode of "30 Rock" had me laughing the entire time. Fey is wonderful at portraying the typical "30 year old feminist New Yorker," perhaps because she actually is one herself. (Wishful thinking? I hope not.) Her supporting cast is excellent, each member has a talent that the writers (headed by Fey herself) take full advantage of.
Basically, Tina Fey is awesome. I want to do...I mean BE her.
PS- NBC offers viewing of all the "30 Rock" episodes through their site, NBC.com
