Obviously not a Beauty and the Beast or a Lion King or Hunchback...
I feel like it's around an Oliver and Company level, but I think it will be more memorable than poor Oliver.
I don't think it tops any 90's films, except Hercules and Down Under, which never caught my attention the same way The Rescuers did.
Doesn't beat Little Mermaid..
Maybe it's at a Tarzan level?
My thing is this: there were a few to many bullshit scenes for my liking (though I did laugh at the sheer wtfery of them), I don't really think the overall theme was that special or creative or conveyed in a particularly moving way, the music was pretty forgettable (THIS IS WHY WE DO NOT DROP MENKEN, DISNEY - yes, I will always be mad about this :P), and the animation did not blow me out of the water.
Unfortunately on the animation front, I don't think we'll have another film that's quite as nice as...Little Mermaid through Mulan or Tarzan and I KNOW we won't have another Snow White, Bambi, or Fantasia. :(
Even so, I did not find the "fancy" visuals to be particularly pleasing or fantastic.
That, and some did look kind of computery at times. :(
Anyway..hmm...OK, better than Hercules...we got that, haha. More memorable than Oliver and Company.
Not as moving as Pocahontas or Fox and the Hound.
Or Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast.
I think it's so difficult to rate because it's kind of...it's kind of a "going back" film. Like...a test run, almost. Oliver and Company was sort of a test run for the Little Mermaid and I feel like Frog was kind of a test run for future 2D films. *crosses fingers*
I did find the film fun and enjoyed watching it. However, it didn't really grab me in the way other films have.
I really like Prince Naveen, though. What a cutie!
Wanna know what I disliked?
Ray's death.
You weren't expecting that, were you? Because you think I don't like Ray.
Well, I don't really care for him, but here is my opinion on his death:
It was new, it was unexpected, it was trying something no Disney film has actually gone through with, and it had NO. PURPOSE. That was my real problem with it. It was just..it was a waste of a scene! And I didn't think the audience was able to build up enough of an attachment to him, really. And even so, if they did want to kill him off and have him be with Evangeline...A FUNERAL PROCESSION IS NOT NECESSARY. I'm sorry, but it was like..jesus...there was no need for that.
There was also no need for..
a) frog eating alligators? Yes, I'm sure these hungry gators are going to want delicious frogs for lunch. Not something bigger and meatier. No, they're all on diets. And French. Let's stick with frogs.
b) frog...poachers? That scene was EXTREMELY "thank you for that pointless detour, movie; if one of the characters gets a splinter and manages to wiggle it out, please inform us."
c) the splinters. That was also pretty pointless. I actually didn't have a huge problem with that...I just thought of it while writing about the frog poachers. :P
I think there were a few other bits that I felt were unnecessary as well...I cannot remember them, though.
...I HAVE BEEN DISTRACTED BY THE LOOK-A-LIKE THING ON FACEBOOK. I WILL POSSIBLE POST MORE FROGGY THOUGHTS LATER.
