So I am back in Atown, updating my journal at Alec's again...
Last week was interesting. I was made the de facto computer repairman at home. I had to deal with 3 computers that had never had spyware/virus scanners/firewalls ever installed and that were used by people not at all security conscious. So I saw my old friend netsky again...
Then I decided to experiment in learning linux, so I wiped a laptop my dad gave me as well as an old computer I borrowed from IT and installed RedHat 6.2 (after attempting the troublesome Slackware 7 and failing...). I like a lot of features of Linux, although it will be a while until I will feel comfortable not having a Windows machine around. But playing with it on a laptop is fun. I still can't get the X server to start the screensaver or activate the P&P sound card.
I am still trying to install linux on an old server at school. But I can't set up a linux partition yet since its only storage is a SCSI array (1 10K 18 GB, 5 7200 9 GB) that is set as a dynamic drive...if anyone knows a utility I can use to convert dynamic to basic on a server without a working OS, tell me!
It's ingenious:
