Kirkland

So, life is going pretty well right now. I moved out. Yes, finally. I moved to Kirkland and i've started a new life there for the next year or so. (Maybe longer if I like it.) I'm living with my longtime friend Adam. We decided to give the roommate thing a shot, and things are going well. It's been so long that I've lived on my own that I forgot many of the subtle benefits of being independent. Besides the obvious benefit of independence, there are ones that made me say..."Oh yeah, thats right! THAT happens when I move out."

The first of which is that I have lost weight already. I've only been living on my own for 2 weeks, but I've probably dropped about 5-6 lbs. The irony in the situation is that I am too lazy or not bored enough to feed myself, so I lose weight. Don't get me wrong, I eat. I just eat better now that I have to take care of myself without any parental supervision and I also eat less because I don't have much money, and I want to make my supplies last. So yeah, 5-6 lbs. in 2 weeks, couple that with walking down to the waterfront and back 1-2 times a week and who knows where this could go? I could get back down to 220 lbs.

The second benefit is an increased sense of responsibility. What I mean by that is I am shedding my passive-agressive past and now trying to be a little more assertive. For example, my first week in living at my apartment I discovered that someone had been parking in my spot. I pay for that spot. It's mine, and I wanted to know who it was. At first, I left a note under the person's windshield, but then I realized that wasn't a good way to handle it so what I did was I went around my foyer and knocked on doors trying to find out who owned the car. Sure enough, I found the person and I jsut simply said (non-threatening) that I think he was parked in my spot. He was pleasant enough, a real nice guy, and he cordially moved his car. We haven't had a problem since. That's just an example of who I am becoming, and to be totally honest...

I like it.
