Awoo and Bill Gates

Alec Woo is a fellow graduate student in the TinyOS group. He works -- well, is finishing up his thesis, so maybe 'worked' is better -- on multihop routing. His major contribution has been coming up with an efficient and accurate link estimator for sensor networks (presented at SenSys 2003). He's on the job market now, and Microsoft Research is one of the places he's considering.

Today, Bill Gates gave a talk here at Berkeley. There was a brief round-table discussion after, with the Dean of Engineering, the president of the student body, some other important people, and... Alec Woo, at Bill Gates' (or one of his minions) request.

Seems like Microsoft is kinda interested in sensor networks. I've been told is less interest in sensor networks, but rather interest in low-power, small-range wireless, such as home networks and personal networks.

Alec was slightly embarassed about the whole thing.
