my granddad paid my college tuition 'cause there was NO WAY my family would be able to come up with it. and i was going to a state school, so it wasn't really that much money. i remember worrying whether my dad would sign the financial aid forms every sememster(so i could get work-study jobs to pay for my food and books etc.) because he was scared that somehow he would be responsible for paying for school if he signed something. he couldn't read the forms well enough to figure them out so i walked him thru them.
so glad that is ancient history now. proud of where i came from 'cause that's how i got to be me, but glad to no longer live it daily.
You're right that there are smart kids at all higher education institutions. But let's not forget that there are dumb people at all of them too! I have seen so much moronic behavior from Ivy League tenured professors it's ridiculous. In a way it's been really reassuring to me that if *those* people can do it, I *have* to be capable of doing something reasonable with my life.

I hope it was enjoyable toying with his reality, then breaking it.
