Loving the back and forth storytelling form the past and present - great job! I'm completely drawn to your Dreilide who seems to have the gentleness I often associate with Helo. Loving his movement into a relationship with Socrata. The sections with the flashbacks about New Caprica and especially with Leoben were particularly chilling. It's amazing what you've done so well by switching things over at this point. The damage inflicted on Kara is now Lee's (and in some ways vice versa.) My only note - and this is not a general thing to your writing, but to canon - is that for me, I never read Lee's actions IN CANON as particularly unconditional. He (IMO) always wanted something from Kara... and when she couldn't provide it, there was friction. I'm probably in the minority on this, but I feel he was (in canon) every bit as responsible for things not working. But I digress.

What I wanted to say is I ADORE that subtle tweak to his character. It felt so real - and possibly his experiences on New Caprica could have given him insight to this breakthrough. Thank you for a lovely story. I"ll be back again (4 chapters at a time) soon! K :D

Dreilide sort of evens Socrata out, which she desperately needs, just like Kara does as well (although Apollo generally sucks at fulfilling that role for her in canon).

I definitely agree to some extent with how you feel about Lee in canon. He did always want something from her, but then I remember smaller moments where he's still loving and caring for her underneath all the other layers of complicated things going on. He may have been a stubborn asshole sometimes, but when needed, he came. In this fic, Lee realizes that and his time on New Caprica opened his eyes a little more to what he wants or in general, how he wants to treat her (and how much she means to him deep down). It's also why he came back from the planet much less angry than Lee was after New Cap in canon. On Pegasus, he was just stewing away for the entire year and the months following the occupation, barely busy and eating away his feelings. On N.C., he at least had a purpose and something to channel himself into, and sitting as hostage of Leoben for awhile because of Kara gave him time to reevaluate a lot of things.

Also, I just wanted him to stop being such a douche.
