I love your description of Lee at the beginning, his memories and that it's difficult for him to adjust himself again to a life on a battlestar after living on New Caprica. I find it intriguing that while in couple neither Lee/Dee and Kara/Sam were living together... I like that your Lee leaves the military to start a civilian life, with a political purpose, on New Caprica only when he isn't needed anymore as a warrior. For me, his resignation at that moment in your story makes more sense, as he is so responsible, than what canon gave us at the end of Crossroads and in Season 4 (and we don't have to deal with Fat!Lee either!).
And what a twist with Leoben at the end of the chapter!

When I told a friend of mine I was writing this fic, her first response was about how she hoped it was all just going to be about Fat Apollo. I'm totally a little disappointed I didn't find a way to work him in to this story. But in canon, I always felt it was more of the problems with Kara that made Lee put on the weight, rather than just being idle (though it obviously didn't help things either). With the change up here, Lee got to focus himself on New Caprica and find purpose there instead of just sitting on an empty battlestar eating away his feelings ( ... )

The beginning with Lee thinking about the 'things' he's lost is wonderful, especially how it fits with his experiences on New Caprica without saying so much. His loss is palpable.

Ah intriguing, so Dee and Lee weren't married of course, and were in separate places all this time. Interesting.

I remain really compelled by the way he and Kara are relating, just kind of shocked that Lee never lets his anger get the best of him honestly. Even asking Kara to have his back with the circle. Maybe that's because he made the choice to muster out, instead of the other way around.

I was actually so surprised by the circle and I'm glad you kept that/worked it in. And I'm just really so, so happy Kara was never locked away on New Caprica by the cylon and Kacey and all of it. She's SOOOO much healthier and that's really heartwarming. (Still a little bat-frakked when it comes to her love life of course, but hey, I'm sure they'll sort that out. ;)

Ooh and that ending! That one surprised me! I can't wait to see what Lee knows about Leoben!

Oh and I'm really glad Lee recognizes that the fleet needs him more than the town council...er...quorum ever could at this juncture. I'm so glad he's staying Apollo.

It was purgatory, of that they were all sure. It was a grey planet, nearly colorless, and set a convincing backdrop for their circumstances. A dull world where they were all waiting to die.

I love love love this line. It so perfectly describes how the hope of New Caprica turned sour even before the occupation and especially afterward. And it's something that no one ever said explicitly but that was definitely the feeling.

I also love the way you've written Laura and Bill. I can just perfectly see their characteristic motions when I'm reading your prose. Very well done!
