I just finished to read the first chapters of your story and I found it very interesting. I really love the background you're giving us about Dreilide and Socrata, especially her memories of the First Cylon war and her lingering anger. Love also the interaction between Lee and Kara at the end of chapter 4, harsh words and incapacity of talking to each other as often between them. I'm very curious to see where you're going with this story as I didn't like Kara's disappearance/reappearance and the omnipresent mysticism in Season 4 either. So if you give us another explanation of the events that lead them to Earth, I'm all for it!
I'm glad you're enjoying it so far! I've always wondered more about Kara's (and her parents') past and never really saw it done anywhere like this before, so I thought I'd try my hand at it. I was really interested in exploring who Socrata was, why she became who she did, did the things she did, and just how much Kara was similar to her and Dreilide
( ... )
Man, I can't believe you got me invested in Kara'a parents...I have to wonder why :) But I know I'll find out! Love the hardness of Socrata against the warm lightness of Dreilide :)
I know, right? I hadn't seen much shown about her folks in a lot of stories, especially about their relationship. Socrata was always portrayed as this person that was hardly human (and believe me, she does deserve that kind of negative character treatment after all we know she'd done to Kara as a child), but I never wanted to see her as so one-dimensional. There had to be things that mad her tick, soft sides to her (especially since we saw in Maelstrom that she HAD cared, not to mention the photos in the apartment of mother and daughter happy when Kara was younger), and a personality hidden under it all. I also wanted to really show how similar Kara could be to a younger Socrata at times, despite how much Kara would never want to hear that.
