Dongwoo rolled over on his bed, groaning as sunlight filtered through the crack between his curtains. He felt Hoya shift beside him before wrapping his arm around his waist and pulling him back, nuzzling his face into Dongwoo’s back.
“That was a great night last night,” Hoya said, closing his eyes again. Dongwoo yawned before wiggling out of Hoya’s embrace.
“Well, don’t get used to it. You know I hate it when you dance with those girls,” Dongwoo said, grinning as he thought back to the night before.
--
Dongwoo almost threw his phone into a wall when he got Woohyun’s text.
“Hoya! Look at this!” Hoya leaned over while fixing his purple bow tie in the mirror.

ahaha parents aren’t here so i’m spending thanksgiving with sunggyu and his family. have fun getting hit on by girls!
“What? He’s just going to throw us out to the wolves like this? What kind of best friend is he?”
“Well. We do use him as a distraction to escape every year. So I guess this is karma,” Dongwoo said, stuffing his phone into the inside pocket of his jacket before helping Hoya fix his crooked bow tie.
“It was straight!”
“No, it wasn’t.” Hoya made whining noises and tried to hit Dongwoo’s hands away.
“It was straight before! Now it’s crooked!”
“Your eyes must be crooked then.” Dongwoo dodged Hoya’s punch before running into his closet and shutting the door behind him, holding it closed and smirking as he heard the thump when Hoya ran into it.
“You suck! Just hurry up and get dressed for dinner! I want to finish early and get the hell out of there.” Dongwoo slowly leaned away from the door. Hoya must’ve been pushing against the door still because when he let go, the door swung open, smacking Dongwoo in the head.
“Ow!” Dongwoo fell back onto his butt and held his forehead.
“Serves you right for standing so close to the door.” Hoya stepped inside and squatted down, pulling Dongwoo’s hands away and kissing his forehead gently.
“Come on. Get dressed.”
--
They sat across the table from each other during dinner with their families. Dongwoo had to pretend to laugh at his father’s lame jokes while Hoya’s parents joked about how they’d never be able to marry Hoya off to anyone besides Dongwoo.
The two subtly flung food at each other when their parents weren’t looking. The girls looked absolutely appalled by their behavior, but that’s what they were aiming for anyway.
After dinner was over, everyone gathered in the gigantic ball room to mingle and dance. Dongwoo and Hoya were hiding out on the balcony until Dongwoo’s mom dragged him inside to introduce him to her friends, friends that Dongwoo had seen many, many times.
Since the air was so chilly, Hoya stepped inside with his hands in his pockets, hoping that no one would notice him.
“Hoya! It’s so good to see you!” He turned around and gave the girl a strained smile. Every year they had to deal with a slew of girls hitting on them. Woohyun was the only one that spoke impolitely to them, and that seemed to make them gravitate to him even more.
“Yes, it’s nice to see you too. You look nice.” She giggled, making a hand motion that said ‘oh, stop’. Hoya made polite conversation with her, nodding in all the right places and being in awe whenever she mentioned expensive designer brands he’d never even heard of.
“Oh, listen to me talk about myself all the time. Let’s dance,” she said, grabbing Hoya’s arm and dragging him out to the dance floor. Dongwoo peeked around one of his mom’s friends to see Hoya protesting as a girl dragged him out to the dance floor.
His eyes narrowed as the girl placed one of Hoya’s hand on her hip and stepped in close, moving Hoya’s other hand to her shoulder. He watched they danced together on the floor, Hoya smiling at her as she laid her head on his chest.
Dongwoo knew, he knew that Hoya was doing it to be polite, but damn if that didn’t make him jealous. Dongwoo’s parents were in denial about Dongwoo being gay, despite the fact that he and Hoya flaunted their relationship in his parents’ faces whenever they could. His mom thought it was just a phase.
Hoya’s parents, however, supported him and always felt sorry that Dongwoo had to deal with that kind of mindset with his parents.
“Dongwoo? Dongwoo, are you listening?” his mom asked. Dongwoo snapped out of his daze and smiled.
“Sorry, I missed it.” As his mother started to talk again, his attention wandered back to Hoya on the dance floor. It was a different girl in his arms now, and a group of them were lined up behind him, fanning themselves and giggling.
Dongwoo sighed, rolling his eyes.
“Excuse me for a second, I’m not feeling so great.” His mom’s friends protested as he excused himself and disappeared out of the ballroom, but not before making eye contact with Hoya. Hoya raised an eyebrow at him as he disappeared.
--
After another half an hour, Hoya excused himself to use the restroom and carefully slipped out of the ballroom. Dongwoo was probably hiding out in his room again. Hoya vaguely wondered what kind of excuse he made as he hurried down the dark hallway to Dongwoo’s room.
His door was cracked open slightly, letting a dim light flood out onto the floor.
“Dongwoo? Dongw- Oh. My. God.” Hoya’s jaw dropped to the floor.
“Close the door.” Hoya obeyed mindlessly as Dongwoo slid off of his bed, walking towards Hoya, swaying his hips.
Dongwoo made a gorgeous girl. He wore his long wig, one of Hoya’s dress shirts and shorts so short they should be illegal.
“Dongwoo. What the hell.” Dongwoo just smiled, leaning forward to grab the collar of Hoya’s jacket.
“Just call me noona.”
--
“You make such a sexy girl,” Hoya wrapped his arms around Dongwoo’s waist as Dongwoo checked himself out in the full length mirror next to his closet.
“I think you got a little too excited.” There were various red marks all over his body, and a dark purple bruise at the base of his neck.
“Whatever,” he said, leaning his head on his shoulder. “Those just make you even more mine that you already were before.” Dongwoo laughed as he turned to kiss Hoya.
“I wonder if Woohyun managed to get some last night,” Dongwoo said with mild amusement in his voice.
“Knowing them, they probably got cockblocked somehow.”
--
Woohyun sighed as he watched Sunggyu’s sleeping face in the morning. It was a wonderful thing to wake up to in the mornings. He brushed some of Sunggyu’s hair out of his eyes and smiled.
After they got into the bedroom last night, clothes were flying off and things were getting heated until Sunggyu stopped, pulling away from Woohyun.
“What? What’s wrong?” Woohyun asked.
“I... I don’t think I’m ready for this yet.” Woohyun blinked at him a few times in the dark before letting out a tremendous sigh and hanging his head. Sure, Sunggyu was the one that came onto him first, but maybe he realized that he bit off a little bit more than he could chew.
“That’s... that’s fine. I don’t want to push into anything you’re not ready for...” Woohyun collapsed onto his bed and whined.
“I’m sorry.”
“No, don’t be sorry. I just. I need a cold shower now.” Woohyun rolled off of his bed and headed into the bathroom while Sunggyu looked after him in worry.
Woohyun caught a glimpse of his expression from the bathroom and smiled at him fondly before heading over to him and kissing his softly again.
“Don’t worry about it. When you’re ready, you’re ready.” Woohyun kissed him again before heading back into the bathroom and shutting the door behind him. Sunggyu sighed, falling over onto his bed.
“Woobear.” He flipped over onto his stomach and crawled up the bed to his pillow before picking up the bear.
“Why am I like this? I feel like I’m torturing him,” Sunggyu said with a frown on his face. For once, Woobear didn’t have an answer for him.
“I guess you’re too innocent to know the answers to things like this, huh?” The bear nodded at him as he sighed and placed it back on his pillows. Sunggyu headed over to his dresser to find clothes to change into.
--
He was half asleep when Woohyun finally came out of the shower. Woohyun crawled onto the bed after he finished drying his hair. Sunggyu threw his arm around his waist and turned over onto his side, inhaling Woohyun’s scent.
“Good night,” Woohyun said, planting a kiss on Sunggyu’s nose.
“Gnight...”
--
Myungsoo sat outside on the porch swing. The cold was raising goosebumps on his skin, but he didn’t really care. The blanket sat in a crumpled heap beside him in the spot that Sungyeol was occupying before.
He sneezed again, wiping his nose on his sleeve.
“Myungsoo? Are you out here? Goodness! Where’s your jacket? You’re going to catch your death out here in the cold! Come inside, Sungjong is here!”
“I know,” he said, staring off into the distance.
“Weren’t you out here with Sungyeol?”
“He left.” His mother watched the sullen expression on his face before grabbing his arm and pulling him inside.
“Come inside before you get sick.” Myungsoo let himself be pulled inside. As soon as the warm air and laughter hit him, he felt his heart ache as Sungyeol’s laugh echoed in his mind. He made a beeline for his room and shut the door behind him before wandering over to his bed and falling into it.
He ignored the soft knock at his door. Instead, he reached for his phone and stared at his texts. When he didn’t answer the knocks, someone pushed the door open gently before closing it behind them.
“Your mom said your room was here,” he heard Sungjong say from behind him. He ignored him as he typed out a text to Sungyeol.
To: Dinosaur
Call me when you get this. Let me explain, please.
He hit send and sighed, stuffing the phone underneath his pillow. “What do you want, Sungjong?”
Sungjong sat down on his bed, giving Myungsoo a worried look. “You never minded when I kissed you before. What’s different now?”
“What’s different now? What’s different? I have a boyfriend now. That’s what’s different.” Sungjong frowned.
“That’s not what you said when you introduced him. You said he was a friend.” Myungsoo was silent. He was right. Why didn’t he just introduce Sungyeol as his boyfriend? They did all the things couples did, but neither of them had even asked the other one out. It was just a mutal understanding that they liked each other.
“I... We... It’s just how it is,” Myungsoo said with a sigh. He buried his face into his sheets and closed his eyes.
“I take it you didn’t tell him about us.”
“There wasn’t really much of us to tell him about. We kissed a few times. That didn’t mean we were dating or anything.” Sungjong sighed.
“Most normal people consider that dating. Like me.”
“I told you we weren’t dating.”
“You’d warm up to me eventually.”
“Sungjong.” Myungsoo lifted his head up from his sheets and gave him a defeated look. Myungsoo looked more tired than usual, and his eyes were sad even. Sungjong had never seen him act this way about anyone before.
“He means a lot to you, huh? What was his name again? Sung-something?”
“Sungyeol. Lee Sungyeol.”
“It’s close enough to my name. Are you sure you’re just not using him as a replacement for me?” Myungsoo rolled his eyes and buried his face in the sheets again. Sungjong was so stubborn sometimes, he wanted to punch him.
“I can’t believe you moved on that fast! It’s only been a few months since you moved!”
“I never liked you like that Sungjong. You were a good friend.” He heard his phone vibrate and nearly knocked it off of his bed reaching for it.
From: Sunggyu
i hate to bring bad news, but i think sungyeol broke his phone. i heard something get thrown into the wall and him yell stupid phone.
Myungsoo stared at the text for a moment before throwing his own phone across his room in frustration.
“God. Damn it.” Myungsoo sat up and buried his face into his hands. Sungjong looked around his room, nonchalant expression on his face.
“Well, if you two break up, guess that means you’ll be free to get back with me.”
“Sungjong. We were never together in the first place.”
“You’re not together with Sungyeol either! Have you asked him out?”
“I don’t need to for us to be dating.”
“Yes, you do! That’s how the world works! If you weren’t so afraid of getting close to people, all of this could be avoided! We would be dating, and you wouldn’t even know him!” Myungsoo stood up and started pacing around the room to keep from punching Sungjong himself. He stopped in front of a wall and let out a yell of frustration before punching a hole right through it.
--
Sungyeol didn’t know what got into him. He wasn’t sure if it was jealousy, or anger, or overwhelming sadness. Those three feelings were battling in his heart as he ignored Myungsoo’s pleas from behind him.
He wanted someone randomly come in and kiss Myungsoo like they were lovers. He and Myungsoo shared kisses. They held hands, they laughed with each other, they spent time with each other.
And yet, Myungsoo still introduced him as his friend. Not his boyfriend, but his friend.
‘Is that all he really sees me as? A friend? A friend with benefits?’ Sungyeol’s heart hurt to think about it, so he pushed the thoughts out of his mind, and it left him with anger. He didn’t know why he was mad. He was just mad.
He was mad that he got so attached to Myungsoo without knowing anything about him. He was mad thinking about how stupid he was to think he was special to someone. He got so mad, he started to throw things in his room, whatever he could get his hands on.
And when he saw Myungsoo’s name on his phone, he threw it as hard as he could at the wall and watched as his phone broke in half.
“Stupid ass phone. Stupid ass Myungsoo, stupid ass world!” He kicked at his table, not even wincing as his foot started to throb.
And then the tears started to fall. He couldn’t understand why. He wasn’t sad. He was mad.
He let out a deep breath and slumped to the floor, pulling his knees to his chest. He got used to having Myungsoo around. He got used to arguing with him, he got used to his perverted comments.
The ache in his heart was a dull constant pain.
His sketchpad peeked out at him from under his bed. Sungyeol stared at it for a moment before grabbing it and searching for a pencil.
--
Sunggyu knocked on his door in the morning before carefully opening the door. Woohyun watched him from the kitchen as he made breakfast, just to make sure Sungyeol didn’t do something stupid.
He found him asleep on the floor, knees to his chest. His sketchpad was wedged between his face and his legs. His eyelids looked a little swollen.
Sunggyu looked around his room, sighing at the mess until his eyes fell onto the broken phone on his desk.
Sunggyu leaned over to see what was on the sketchpad, and he could tell it was a drawing of someone. Probably someone he was missing right now.
He squatted down gently, wincing as some pain shot through his knee.
“Sungyeol. Sungyeol, wake up.” Sungyeol groaned, grimacing as he straightened out his legs.
“Did you sleep like that all night?” Sunggyu asked, giving his friend a concerned look.
“Yes,” Sungyeol croaked out, trying to blink his swollen eyes. He sighed before standing up unsteadily.
“I’m gonna go shower, and then go back to sleep.” Sunggyu stood back up and started to say something before he was interrupted by Sungyeol.
“No, I haven’t talked to him, and no, I don’t want to talk to him, and I don’t care if you think I should talk to him. He doesn’t owe me anything. It’s not like we’re dating. We’re just friends.” Sunggyu gave him a look of confusion.
“But you said...”
“Apparently not.” Sungyeol disappeared into the bathroom.
--
“What did he say? What’s going on with them?”
“I don’t even know anymore,” Sunggyu said as he chewed on some bacon.
“God. I wish those two would make up their minds already. Either their lovey dovey, or at each others’ throats.”
“I don’t know, Woohyun.... I think it’s serious this time.” Sunggyu looked up as he heard the bathroom door open to see Sungyeol make his way to his bedroom and slam the door behind him.
--
When school started again, Sungyeol took the bus to school. Woohyun found out from Sunggyu when he stopped by to pick him up.
“He took the bus?” Sunggyu nodded sleepily.
“I was wondering why I heard noises out here so early.” Woohyun frowned before placing a kiss on Sunggyu’s temple.
“I’ll try and figure out what’s going on at school.”
“I think Dongwoo and Hoya might do a better job than you.”
--
Class was awkward. Sungyeol didn’t even look up when Myungsoo walked in. He refused to look, even though Myungsoo knew that Sungyeol knew that he was staring at him.
Lunch was even more awkward. Even though the two of them were sitting next to each other, Sungyeol refused to look at Myungsoo, answering his questions with curt words.
Woohyun, Dongwoo, and Hoya stared at the two of them. Dongwoo and Hoya were even too distracted by them to steal food from Woohyun, who unconsciously ate his lunch for the first time in a long time as he watched the two of them.
When lunch was over, Sungyeol got up first and left with Myungsoo trailing after him with a guilty look on his face.
“Guys. This calls for an intervention. How long have they been like this?”
“Since Thanksgiving,” Woohyun said, staring after them.
“Alright. Dongwoo and I will take care of this. We’re not masters of meddling for nothing. Just make sure Sungyeol is down at the locker room before practice starts.”
