The official reason is the hurricane. But that's still a load of shit because we already have oil supplies from whatever the fuck countries we buy/ship them from. Therefore, the oil that is in the country now, waiting to be put into the gas stations is already 6 months to a year or more old, AND already purchased. Therefore, the oil that was knocked over by the hurricane shouldn't affect us until we buy it from over there in another 6 months to over a year.

It's not the hurricane! That is an excuse, it was rising in price before the goddamn hurricane! Everyone whos buys gas knows this is true, the hurricane was just an excuse for the gas stations to raise the price, but it isn't Shell or Mobil's fault, they have beeen losing money all year. Not to mention that the hurricane messed up only 1/3 of our inland oil, that's INLAND oil. Over 75% of our oil comes from other countries to begin with, so what is 1/3 of 25%, you do the math.

The excuse for not setting up our own refineries here is that it would be too expensive to build. I would rather spend tax dollars on building US refineries to get cheaper gas in the long run than buying damn expensive gas because we buy/ship it from overseas.
