My computer crashed on Tuesday all SYSTEM FAILURE and although I managed to resuscitate it a bunch of programs went poof, and my product key for MS Office no longer works, and I'm too tired and annoyed for this, dammit. Someone suggested I use OpenOffice instead? I really only need Word and PowerPoint. I should probably figure this out before essays start being due left and right.
I can't believe I've served a quarter of my iSchool Hellmouth tour of duty already! Well, final grades have not been officially posted yet but I'm pretty sure I didn't fail:
Class 1 (all about knowledge and society!):
* B+ paper about the myths of the information age (in which I cite American Gods, natch)
* A- paper about the infrastructure of TWOP
* A paper about fanfic and copyright
* B+ debate about whether we should get over how we have no privacy (I didn't come up with the topic)
Class 2 (all about "meaning-making"... whatever that means!):
* B+ paper about how TWOP is organized (lol yes, I wrote two essays about TWOP)
* A- group paper/presentation about what it was like to represent a newspaper article as a parody skit
* B+ paper about the ~importance~ of classification
* A debate about whether random ppl should be allowed to classify shit (short answer: no)
Class 3 (all about information systems!):
* A- paper about how the student registration service sucks
* B+ paper about data flow diagrams
* A Yahoo Pipes group project/poster/presentation (I still can't explain to you what Yahoo Pipes is about)
Class 4 (all about the ~foundations~ of library science!):
* B+ paper about my mom's impressions of the public library (we were allowed to interview anyone, haha)
* B+ group annotated bibliography project
* A- paper about what a fandom librarian would do if such a job existed
* A, A, A+ for three reviews of scholarly articles
Most of these essays were POSes written in spans of less than 24 hours, so you can imagine how immensely relieved I am. Some folks were pissed off because a lot of the time when we get our assignments back the pages aren't even creased and the TAs don't bother writing comments, they just attach a grading rubric. Once I didn't even finish my last sentence and the TA didn't catch it. That part goes something like, "I did my best to be accurate and the process" and then it ends because it was 2:30 in the morning and I ran out of batteries. lol
Thursdays are going to be crappy for four more weeks with my brutal 9-9 (that's a.m. to p.m.) schedule. Last time, I think I became kind of delirious from being up since the crack of dawn, because I actually got started on homework without an imminent deadline. And then a cute boy sat behind me in my night class, and in iSchool this is like a rare astronomical event that happens once every 500 years, so I turned around and talked to him and decided that he vaguely resembles Justin Chatwin (who is apparently playing Balder in the Thor movie WTF). I was wayyyyyy too "sprightly" (as someone once told me during an interview) and fortune does not favour my boldness anyway because he doesn't appear to be single. But his presence might prove to be caffeinic - any method to stay awake during the prof's monologues about cataloguing!
What else to report... um, I got my H1N1 shot yesterday and my arm is more sore than tonight's Golden Globe losers are going to be.
Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer are getting married! Let's kill these terrible RPattz/Spider-Man rumours right now. Seen in the comments: "This is a great idea! Then they can cast Miley Cyrus as MJ and Lady Gaga as Dr. Octopus!"
thetyrells won the Game of Thrones! I've been meaning to make a post about it. I'm only responsible for an infinitesimal fraction of the tens of thousands of points House Tyrell took home this game, but I'm so proud to be a Highgarden Rose!
So everyone knows that international Lost promos are always better than ABC's, which are often made of fail. Here is a gorgeous Lost S6 promo from Israel:

I think I like the chess motif from the Spanish one better though:
