Apocalyptic story of the day: Got my flu shot. Arm hurts. Aieeeeeee.
Apocalyptic story of the week: Going to enter the homestretch of Draft 2 for my feature... anytime now...
First off, I never thought I'd be so excited to see
Chow Yun Fat. HAHAHA. And I'm not sure if this is the final
poster for At World's End, but it is awesome. (The Chinese characters translate to "Good luck Captain Jack," which I find hilariously heartwarming.)
I have finished reading Stephen King's Cell and moved on to Philippa Gregory's The Constant Princess... I just cannot express to you how easy it is to turn the pages of books when you don't have to remember significant quotes and analyze how they relate to great journalism. (I wrote what should be the last essay of my J-Skool career last week and I'm not sure I want to go retrieve it. How do we retrieve it?)
Practically all my TV bandwagons have gone on holiday. I'm curious to see if the
howling VM fans have the right of it - do more stand-alone episodes and shorter mystery arcs mean the show is getting dumbed down? And I'm looking forward to Christopher Eccleston's
stint as a Hero.
Meanwhile, Saturday night was the finale of My Date With A Vampire III, which was a really disappointing closing chapter to one of my favourite FobTV series. I found the
extended ending on YouTube, and... yeah, that didn't make it any better. I think the freakin' FLYING SAUCER was the nail in the coffin. I don't remember much from MDWAV I and II, but I'm pretty sure the last shreds of continuity went out the window when they gave the Slayer a mom, a dad, a brother and a daughter. I especially hated the whole daughter-from-the-future arc... it was like a supremely annoying echo of the Dawn storyline from BtVS, only Horizon (Tin Ai) is, if possible, even more annoying than Dawn, and then they threw some Connor into the mix. Are they really doing a MDWAV IV with her as the main character? Because that would be worse than when those Dawn the Vampire Slayer rumours were circulating the Internet.
I guess continuity has never been important in the MDWAV universe - look at the multiple characters Kenneth Chan plays - but all the campy fun from the previous two instalments is gone. The Slayer is burdened with a DAUGHTER, and everyone just takes themselves way too seriously. Case in point: Yiu Chi, the vengeful goddess who just can't get over a guy. Yeah, so he's a prince among men - literally, he's the king of men - and you had a love that lasted millennia... and then he dumped your psychotic ass. GET OVER IT. The writers suck at character motivation. Though I do like the show's penchant for introducing strong, sexy women who can kick ass in cool outfits. All the women on this show are insanely gorgeous. Even the men aren't bad by Asian standards. lol.
I also find it hilarious that I already cast Fate as the Big Bad in my Fantasy Opus Circa 1999. Alternate career path #20 - FobTV story consultant.
The
Chinese poster for The Painted Veil.
Emilie Autumn is doing a
Little Xmas Secrets Advent Calendar thing where she posts weird and wacky videos of herself every day of the month.
I didn't know there were so many Whose Line clips on YouTube. I miss that show. (I was reminded of how I developed a crush on Jeff Davis after he sang an operatic duet with Wayne Brady. I can't find that specific episode, but I love
this version of The Mummy. Jeff Davis reminds me of somebody.) In other quasi-TV-related news, J.J. Abrams
rumoured to direct the next Star Trek movie. Also,
Anthony Stewart Head has joined Tim Burton's version of Sweeney Todd. Giles, Captain Jack, Snape and Borat in the same movie? Trippy.
pottersues cracks me
right up.
Sin City set in Sparta. It looks more like a video game than a comic book, if you ask me.
You know, I never really understood all the symbolism in that song, but
according to Wikipedia the twelfth day of Christmas is actually January 6. And regardless, I don't want 12 drummers. (Unless they're all really hot. Hmm... idea for future blog: selecting 12 men to be part of my harem. Muahaha.)
So I did some prelim shopping and the malls are leaving me cold. (Except maybe underwear shopping. I blame Cat for this "a girl can never have too many bras" attitude. Hahaha. Everytime I walk past La Senza I find myself scanning the store for the telltale mob of women indicative of a big sale.) Nothing really strikes my fancy (because baby, all I want for Christmas... is youuuuuu...) and I have to write my second draft and put together some merry music and try to bake some new cookies and socialize with people and the tree is already up and it's like... nope, not feeling the holiday spirit.
I do plan to get myself a digital camera, though, so send any tips and recommendations my way. For a girl working on a prototype of a magazine called JetPack, I am hopelessly Mesozoic when it comes to technology.
Other stuff to put under the tree for me:
*
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, duh.
* Gift cards are nice - Chapters, Famous Players,
Urban Outfitters, HMV,
The Body Shop. And in case anyone wants to help revitalize my wardrobe, I have been known to buy clothes from Dynamite, Jacob, Costa Blanca, Sirens (I am a HOR, after all), Garage, Urban Behavio(u?)r, Suzy Shier, Bluenotes... actually, I pretty much wander into every store as the mood strikes me. So surprise me. Oops, and how can I forget that Cat is thinking LA SENZA at this very moment. Hahaha.
* Oh, and concerning books, I still don't have HP6 in paperback. And here are some graphic novels that I've been pining for: Neil Gaiman's
Brief Lives and
The Kindly Ones, and GRRM's
The Hedge Knight.
* A necklace called
Always Winter and Never Christmas. lol. Or... just pretty necklaces. I can never have enough pretty necklaces.
* Pre-order Emilie Autumn's
Liar/Dead Is The New Alive EP.
*
Baileys Mint Chocolate Irish Cream. (Or something equally as yummy. Like Zachary Quinto as the
brain-stealing, megalomaniacal serial killer Sylar, because, as you are all aware, I like 'em villainous.)
