The rules for claiming:
1- You may claim one prompt, and there is only one writer to a prompt.
eta: 1a- If you haven't finished your prompt from last year and you wish to sign up to finish that, just reply to this post and tell me. You'll then be subject to the same rules as everyone else. And maybe you'll get your soul-bit back. ;)
2- The first person to post asking for a specific prompt will get that prompt. Comments will NOT be screened so it will all be visible. I will confirm your claim by replying to your comment so you know. (I have to work so don't worry if it's several hours before I reply. If you're first to comment, you WILL get that prompt.)
2a. I will strike out each prompt as it is claimed.
3- Initial claim period will run for two weeks, until August 14. You can start writing anytime after receiving confirmation that your claim has been accepted.
4- Any writer can enter the ficathon at any time and claim and write an unclaimed prompt, as long as you finish the story by the due date. (September 20 - 30.)
5- If--after the initial claim period has ended-- you get stuck and just cannot write your prompt, you may turn it in and ask for another, unclaimed, prompt. You can reply here to turn in an old prompt and choose a new one.
6- You may choose and write a second prompt if you wish and you've finished your first already.
7- If you just cannot complete your prompt and do not want to write at all, you can let me know--and forfeit your soul-bits--in this post.
Reminder to those who submitted prompts: it's up to the writer to interpret your prompt and go where their muse takes them. The story may not be exactly what you were thinking of when you submitted the prompt, but that's the chance you take in a ficathon. We all know that writing is never that organized and tame. ;)
Note: I had to sort of guess with some prompts as to where they fit in, as the person did not really specify. Single-character prompts were mostly put into the Gen category. If you really wanted something different done with your prompt, let me know, and if it is still unclaimed, I will correct it.
I recycled a few good unclaimed prompts from the last ficathon, especially in places where I felt we needed more choices.
eta2: Although I brought over a few prompts from last year, there's still a whole list of unclaimed prompts
HERE. If you want to write and none of the new prompts do it for you, give these a try. It's all about getting more fic written. Just tell me your choice and that it's from the 2007 list.

25. Sam/Jack: Somehow, whenever he’d imagined the end of the world, it had always been bleak and dreary-and in black and white. When the gate on the other side eventually spit him out, he flew through the air before landing in a heap on the hard ground. Carter knelt over him and even through his blurry vision, he could see the worry in her face. I woke up this morning with a Frappucino in my hand
I kissed you once. I kissed you again
My heart it tumbled like the stock exchange
Do you feel what I feel, dear?
Mass extinction, darling, hypocrisy
These things are not good for me
Do you see what I see, dear?
The line the God throws down to you and me
Makes a pleasing geometry
Shall we leave this place now, dear?
Is there someway out of here?"

A war has been raging for decades on a planet of no

The SGC must decide whether to intervene and how to do so, if they do.
What does SG-1 do?

Baal's ships surround the Earth. He offers the IOC (and the President) a bargain. He will not attack,or interfere with the Earth's governance,in exchange for SG-1, a large yearly tribute,
and the promise of non-interference from the SGC and world governments.
Do they trust Baal and take the bargain, or do they try something else?

Then, we will enjoy it together."

And the powers that be summoned you and me to help prove what they think they know
Estamos borracheros y cancioneros, verified and tried and true
So Special Ops issued us flip flops, a guitar and a week or two
Well our final report, in code, five-letters-short was written out by hand
it was truthful, subversive, on purpose, in cursive, scribbled seaside in the sand
Well we made quite clear we volunteer to stay right where we are
Belay the extraction, we're missing in action, and F*U*B*A*R!"
(Wake up Call- Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers)
