when you see these things, everything changes.
munich is one of the best movies i have ever seen. so powerful, so gripping, so beautifully filmed. i left the theatre feeling so shaken. i haven't felt like that since i don't even remember when. spieldberg managed to tell an unbiased story, even though the main characters were israelis, and portray the futility of war, the carnage that mankind is capable of, the endless cycle- a huge black hole- that war, any war, is.
i don't want to be another ignorant american, because god knows there are already a billion out there. i would like to know what is going on in other parts of the world, and i feel sometimes that we play the role of cocky ignorant fucks too well and too much. it is going to catch up to us one day in the near future.
it hit home for me how great we have it here about a year or two ago when i was watching some overseas news program and they had live shots of bombings somewhere in the middle east, where innocent people, people who have no illwill towars us, people similar to your family, shrieked in horror and ran down the street with arms outstretched to the skies. imagine a september 11th happening every single day, nonstop through the morning and into the night, walking through streets where bulletholes have become a piece of the architecture. to think that there are countries and cities and towns where this happens every day is unimaginable to most of us.
and worst of all, our governments, the body that is supposed to be lead by its people- lead us around instead- yes, even the united states.
and so i asked my sister all depressed why we should even bother to vote anymore, if regardless of who we elect they still fuck us up the ass anyway, and play the i-promise-to-do-this-only-up-until-you-elect-me game, herding nations around like little sheep, playing a chess game with heads of other nations in secret.
and she replied that she will continue voting, because it is her civic duty and her right, and that the trick is to vote always for the guy with the smallest dick: the one whose gonna fuck the least hardest.
now ain't that the truth?
but regardless, i'm just writing this to let you guys know that you all should see this movie and take what you will from it- just go seeee it and step outside your american bubble for two some hours instead of getting plastered with your buddies and playing beer bong like it ain't no thang!
