Things I Love Monday!
>Seeing my friends after a long weekend. This past weekend was Fall Break, so nearly everyone went home on Thursday night, and I saw none of my friends until Sunday when I had breakfast with a few of them before hitting the road together and going back to school. I love that wonderful hug you get from someone who you normally eat three meals a day with and spend hours in each other's dorm room. I also love that crazy yell people do "DAAAAAAANIIIIIII!!!" with lots of running and jumping.
>Lab classes. Most good labs are 70% learning, and 30% social hour. It's where friendships and bonds are made, and you can goof off and screw around, so long that your grade isn't affected. In some labs, like my Organic Chemistry lab last year, a close-nit community is formed, and in others, like my Physics labs, desperation and failure run rampant. Not only do you get to practically apply what you are learning in class, but you become friends with the four closest people around you.
>Carving Pumpkins. Every October, the week before Halloween, my family takes a trip out to a random pumpkin patch, in search for the perfect pumpkin. One of my sisters always goes for the biggest pumpkin, while my other searches for the most visually perfect pumpkin. I look for one that is excellent for carving. Then we come home, clean off the island counter in the kitchen, cover it with newspaper, drag our pumpkins inside, pull out half the knife drawer and a few mixing bowls, and begin the process. The end result? Some awesome Jack-o-Lanterns and delicious pumpkin seeds to eat!
>Volunteering. This weekend, I got to volunteer at a library for National Chemistry Week and help little kids make slime. It was really cool, and the expression of the kids when they discovered that the slime glows in the dark was priceless. Some of them were beyond excited for chemistry (one girl asked if she got to make acid), and others couldn't care less, but their faces when they realized how awesome it all is...priceless. Nothing can beat that feeling.
