Catching up on National Poetry Month

Apr 03, 2017 16:54

Yesterday among other things I managed to drop extremely thick hot chocolate on the floor of a charity shop while juggling a book of poetry and reading from it. Said hot chocolate went everywhere, so I (having cleaned it up because I Ain't No Fuckin' Animal and those people are volunteers yo) bought the book by way of an apology; it is 1 poem a day ( Read more... )

Good poems!

I would love to hear your thoughts on looking for validation by finding others like you. (After several rounds of people like me actually not being very much like me, I'm increasingly settled on "There isn't anyone like me", and I'm mostly fine with that?)

I think I will make it A PROPER BLOG perhaps.

But the thing. The thing is it's not "there isn't anyone like me". I mean, just finding out:

The Gay Was Not Invented By You, Yourself, In Your Head, And Has Always Existed
The Trans, Similarly
You Can Be Both

These... these aren't experiences that straight/cis people have. [Tangentially reminded again of the multiple gold-medalist dressage Paralympian who remarked, on being asked whether he felt being gay or being paralysed was more of a problem for him in social and personal terms, had said, "Well, I didn't have to come out to my parents as disabled," very acidly].

Go for it!

That makes sense. I think I have something of a different framework, due to different experiences, so it doesn't totally fit me, but what you're saying makes sense. I think it could be a good blog post.

(I often don't have the shared experience. I also didn't end up with the big queer group of friends Tumblr says are supposed to automatically accrue, and I have a total lack of gaydar. Basically, I am bad at identities.)

I've written it -

You've never found yourself kind of taking an especial interest in historical lesbians above and beyond straight women in history?

I had a phase of reading a lot of old lesbian novels, but that was mainly the idea I would figure out some sort of rule system, and then I'd get a girlfriend. (Radclyffe Hall has NO USEFUL INFORMATION on how to meet women on the opposite end of the twentieth century, by the way.). Never the kind of interest you seem to be talking about.

YEAH THAT TOO, I mean, we all have our GARBAGE OSCAR WILDE PHASE

Well I had a fairly confused time at school thinking I was a gay dude because being a lesbian was BAD, then that I was a bisexual girl, then that I was a lesbian, and now I think we've actually managed to come full circle and no I'm definitely a gay dude. Mass media representation would have helped a WHOLE HEAP

He was GLORIOUSLY sarcastic about literally everything (okay please switch to DW because LJ has gone TOO FAR NOW)
