Thought process:
1. It really bothers me that because of my continual and unavoidable absorption of political rather than technical critique of all media/writing ever, I find myself spending more time worrying about which components my books are likely to be reduced down to and criticised on (by people who will never read or buy them because they are not popular franchises and none of them are YAF or TV) than I do on the quality of the writing and the progression of the plot: in this fashion endless politically-oriented articles and tweets are damaging my writing.
2. I am pretty sure that while there are dumb book reviews in newspapers which don't really review or critique the book content because reviewing journalists also don't understand how to write, the prevalence of political reviews of media in my sphere of reading is down to the people I choose to associate with and their ongoing lean away from rational and towards emotive.
3. In synthesis, it is not merely the lack of interest exhibited by people I used to be friends with (who have slipped into being acquaintances for the most part) which is leading to a downfall in output, but also their choice of priorities which is poisoning the well and, to mix a metaphor, strangling a lot of babies before they get a chance to grow.
4. I would need to make new friends before I can dispose of these people but the pool of possibilities is small. It is not possible to find people who are politically non-horrific while also non-histrionic and possessed of the ability to evaluate the technical quality of a work as well as or GOD WILLING instead of the moral qualities.
5. Every year the number of people I can stand gets smaller.
