Blog post

Try, try, and try shirts again

My to do list contains the hearty admonition "make a blog post either about the 1812 or that winter warmer" but now that I'm home and trapped in my little privacy kennel/future coffin or whatever the flat is I really just want to lie here and do nothing. I had an idea for revamping an old idea I had to make it a functional short story, but I haven't written anything in so long that I suspect I'm just kicking a corpse and it would just annoy me to try: also my plans for extending my working hours for reasons of dosh and wishing to not be in my house mean that writing anything is likely to be an impossibility anyway. I've listened to a bunch of Agatha Christie radio plays but have now run out (I suppose I shall move onto the Raymond Chandlers, but I don't know how well they've converted); I'm reading The Time Machine because H G Wells and why not, really.

29. Where have you travelled?

Assuming this means out of the country I live in: I have been to Norway twice, as a child, lived in Gujarat (west India, mostly sabarkantha province/Ahmedabad) when I was 5, went to France once with my family (Bordeaux, Normany) then three times with school (Breton, and one unidentified place in the southern landlocked bits, twice) and twice with friends/girlfriends (Paris), the Netherlands twice (Amsterdam and Boschenhoofd, Amsterdam and the Hague), Belgium for train changing purposes, Denmark (Copenhagen) for train changing purposes, Sweden twice (Malmo, Lund), Canada (Alberta) very briefly to say hi to some people during a layover, Northwest USA (Seattle, Portland), Edinburgh which technically will count as another country soon I believe, the glory of a South Korean Airport for a layover of about 20 hours (Seoul Incheon), and Australia (Sydney, Nowra, Port Macquerie, Coolagnatta, Brisbane); the latter trip has pretty effectively killed my desire to roadtrip anywhere.

Normally I travel to see people, rather than places, which means I get a rather different view of a place than when I was going with someone to look at the place (Amsterdam, Paris, Edinburgh). I still have plans to hop over to Ireland and say hello to Lindsey, Nicole, Sandra, and Shira (and anyone else in the general vicinity of Dublin-ish who I've forgotten), I would like to go to Shetland but it's actually cheaper to go to New York... I want to go to Helsinki (ideally to go to Helsinki and then travel up to Sinikka's home city with Sarianna so that I can't get hopelessly lost on the trains), and various people keep threatening to take me to Venice/Florence/Milan with them, but this is a plan which - like Emma's Boston plan - only ever seems to surface when people are drunk.

Pie in the sky destination choices: the Galapagos, Lake Baikal, the Orient Express, the Trans-Ural Express, India on trains, history trip to Hawaii, Hephaistion shrine trip to Iran.
