Yeah so work happened. And Gmail had a hissyfit, and then the trains had a hissyfit, and I am having a womb-bleed, and therefore I consider it a miracle that I have neither screamed at nor cried on anyone today.

Not screaming or crying is a major accomplishment under the circumstances.

I've never had trifle. What's in it?

Ooh, birthday list! Fun!

Trifle is traditionally sponge at the bottom, with jelly/o on top (sometimes with fruit in it), cold custard on top of that, and whipped cream on top of that (sometimes with a cherry on top). Posh versions also have alcohol - sherry or cointreau - in the jelly. It's usually served at parties or as an alternative pudding to people who don't like Christmas pudding, at Christmas. :D

Interesting! I don't think I've seen that anywhere!

When I was scuba diving in Indonesia, there were these giant sponges that looked like purple underwater castles. Could you make a cake-type sponge that looked like that, and put in the trifling things to make it a dessert?

That would be an innovative way to do it... normally the sponge is just a base. Perhaps ... TRIFLE BOMB?

The sea-sponges I'm thinking of are very tall, with thin walls and a rounded-off bottom bit. So you could stack stuff in the middle.
