I understand most of that, but what do you mean by leviathans? (I can think of a few possible meanings, and I'm not sure which one you're using.)

It's a quite specific fear; any incomprehensibly vast animal (basically if it's any longer than a small car), directly below you/the camera/the boat in the sea, becomes instead of "a whale" or "a shark" or "a fucknormous squeed" just a leviathan: something big and terrifying and unknown.
