Oh bollocks. Obviously my "sources" (a grand total of two blokes in the business) are not that up-to-date. The usual careers advice in these situations is to find a niche within your sector so that you are prized for the rarity of your skills or combination of skills, but I don't know how that would apply to sound engineering and such. At least you're in the right city for jobs, I suppose. I'm sorry my comment turned out to be 100% depressing after all...But cheer up, you could always get a job with Vodaphone, I hear Osborne is very well-disposed towards them LULZ.

Personally, I've decided to retrain as a bean-counter, because there's always money in accountancy and there is the option to work freelance from home, which should give me enough to live on if I twin it with the translation. It may lead to the premature and total death of my soul but at least I probably won't be burnt at the stake for having disfunctional plumbing and may even have some money left over to donate to the Black Triangle Campaign in Edinburgh (yes, some people are pissed off about Reekie's death and Osborne's "Spending Challenge", even if you have to go north of the border to find them...)

Haha no, there *are* jobs in film and broadcast, but naturally I want to work in live theatre, which has been dying for decades (my hope is that eventually I'll be able to get work on one of the big musicals).

I probably won't be burnt at the stake for having disfunctional plumbing

:( Ah yes. I am looking forward to the funeral for the NHS and my chances of being treated for broken bones being removed because I'm lardy and therefore It Was A Lifestyle Choice.

Mmm, live theatre - from the depths of my ignorance, I can only suggest moving to somewhere where they still treat theatre with respect. Sadly this may mean France or elsewhere in Europe (or at least Scotland). (On the plus side, at least they have a functional welfare state in France. And everyone there speaks English, seriously. Probably better than they do in England.) Good luck anyway, that's all I can say really.

I am also concerned about the lardy crackdown. Maybe I should get lipo and pay for it by making the fat into expensive soap, like in Fight Club. Then I might be allowed to continue existing.

I CAN'T LEAVE LONDOOOOOON. *clings to it* We may not treat theatre with respect here, but the big musicals are still pulling in the cash.
