Cecily left the beach holding a torch and hoping that her set up would remain untouched by any other people on the island. As she walked along the pathway to Jim's dorm, she began to feel great tickles in her stomach, as though gentle butterflies were flitting around inside of her. She was nervous, which was odd, for it was not a common feeling ( Read more... )

Jim's tried to dress up a little too, finding someone to press his pants and making sure his shirt's clean. They're going to the beach so he doesn't want to be too fancy; all that's going to happen is he's going to get sand in his shoes and in the hem of his pants.

"Hey, Cecily," he says, making sure he beats everyone else to his door. "Are you ready to go?"

"Well, why else would I be at your door?" Cecily thought Jim looked quite nice, for she had never really seen him in anything other than normal clothing before. She reached out to take his hand with her free hand so that she could lead him to the spot where everything had been set up, praying that she would remember exactly the way she had come.

"Pray, are you well, Jim?"

"Don't I look like I am?" says Jim, suddenly nervous where he'd been pretty calm up till now. "Is there some reason I wouldn't be?"

Cecily was a bit surprised at his response. "Why, I suppose not. You look quite well indeed." She was silent for a moment, unsure of exactly what to say. Her brow was furrowed a bit, but she looked straight forward so she would not wander from the path. Then all of a sudden Cecily spoke to the matter once more, "I merely meant... have you been well since I last saw you? Not that you look ill in any way at all. You look very handsome."

"Oh," says Jim and smiles at her. "I've been good, I've been great. You look pretty tonight, Cecily, really pretty."

Jim's response truly made Cecily's day. Possibly month. She let out a small laugh and held out the part of her dress so that she may look at it herself. "It's really nothing. Just something I pulled out of the box, literally!" She kept walking, but seeing the torch that she left by the blanket she had left on the beach, suddenly spoke again. "It is just up here."

"That's not so hard to find then," says Jim, picking up the pace slightly as he, too, spots it. "We'll want to put the torch out if we want to see anything."

Cecily turned her head to Jim more directly and raised an eyebrow, "What sort of logic is that?" She said, turning her head forward once again and laughing a bit. "If the torch is not lit, then the path will become quite dark!"

"To look at the stars," Jim clarifies quickly. "We'll need to put out the torch to look at the stars. There's got to be millions of them up there."

"Oh!" Cecily exclaimed as they arrived at the blanket she had set up. She placed down the torch in a little whole she had previous dug to hold it, then looked back to Jim. "I had not quite thought of that I suppose." Looking up, Cecily found that she indeed could not see the stars while she was so close to the light.

"Shall we blow them out then?"

"Maybe once we've settled in," said Jim, "so we don't lose track of where our things are. It gets pretty dark out here at night, huh? But I guess you'd know that, living out here."

Cecily sat on the blanket, a small, slightly nervous smile upon her face. Looking back at Jim, she sighed and fluttered her eyelashes at him. Her hand reached out towards him, her mouth silent for she was not quite sure what to say. But she could never remain quiet for long, so she spoke out of need.

"It is really a very beautiful night"

"Yeah, it's real nice," agrees Jim, sitting down and leaning back on his hands. "It's a nice night to be out on the beach instead of cooped up inside. Most people end up inside the compound after dark."

"I adore this beach, indeed." She laughed as she laid back on her back to look into the sky, her hands folded gently across her stomach. Her head turned to him, and gave him a gentle smile.

"I guess that'd be why you live out here," says Jim. "I don't know if I'd want to do that. I like being close to the kitchen and all. I don't have my car here, makes it harder to get around."

Cecily raised an eyebrow and lifted herself onto her arm. "Car?" This was one thing she had heard in passing but had never questioned, but now she wondered greatly whatever it could be. "What is it?"
