I wrote this for Introduction to Myth in University and I have just come across it while going through my External Harddrive. I think this has a lot of potential, I just have to get the time to pad it out and work on it.
[Orphesus] Everyone leaves somebody it’s encoded into their D.N.A. Some people leave their partners, some their families, others their lives. There are a million things that people leave; there are some people that are even forced to leave. They’re not sure why at the time, they just know at some point that things have gotten to a point in which they feel they are forced to leave.
The question is which category do you fit into?
My name is Michael Orpheus and I just forced my lover Irene Eurydice through the gates of hell. She’s lying in front of me cradled in my arms, her naked form immersed with the mix of blood and water flowing from the torn gashes in her wrists. What drove her to this you may ask?
What could possibly drive someone to take their own life?
I have a secret, one, that nobody knows, Eurydice; I always called her that when we were partners at work.
She owned the club that I sang in, she was like my manager, somehow along the line we’d become lovers after my first set. She’d been begging me to tell her what I was hiding, we were connected enough for her to realise something was different about me. In the end I guess she’d spent a lot of time thinking on the subject, because she was now lying dead in my bath with my arms wrapped around her, dripping from the rose red flow that encased her.
“Oh Eurydice...” I murmured into her blood soaked scalp, the crimson water streaked across my pale forearms. It was scattered like the pieces of my heart. I should have told her. Tears were threatening to overwhelm me; I pushed them back, every emotion I felt I shifted to somewhere else inside me. I couldn’t do this right now, I couldn’t grieve for her.
Right now I had a job to do and a lot of explaining. Eurydice was going to be surprised to see me, seeing as I was going to be meeting her in the dark dank place known as the underworld.
