Robin had gotten I-pin to help him bring Dantes down from the upper level and carry him to the recycling center. Shortly after Sweets' arrival, he sidled into the room, his arms around the Count's shoulders, I-pin following with the legs. Robin led the way to the table-like platform at one end of the recycler, by the currently closed hatch through which ag and food processing waste could be dumped. With I-pin's help he carefully lowered the Count's body onto the table
( ... )
It took I-pin a moment to arrange his legs properly and then she finally took the time to glance around before moving to the side and leaning against a wall. The count hadn't been particularly heavy for a man but he wasn't exactly light. Robin had taken the heavy end. Heavy end. That wasn't impersonal or anything.
At some point she had pulled a braid forward and began just tugging on it. More a nervous habit than anything else. She'd been to several funerals already this year ... well in her own time... and she was actually thankful that she didn't know this person well. Which led to an interesting little niggle of guilt in her gut.
Sweets watched the two of them bringing the body in, hands clasped in front of him. He felt distinctly awkward, at the funeral of a man he'd never met while he was alive. Still, he would do his best to help these people in whatever way he could. He smiled faintly at the Chinese girl who he hadn't met before, whose body language was so obviously screaming discomfort.
"We haven't been introduced," he said quietly, "I'm Dr. Sweets." Looked over at Robin and nodded in greeting.
She took a moment to realize someone was talking to her. She looked up at him and dropped her braid, half bowing to him. "Ah, Dr. Sweets! I'm sorry we haven't met yet, you'd think that would be impossible in such a small area. I'm I-pin." She was as quiet as him because it was always quiet at funerals.
James came to show his respect to the Count. He had enjoyed his conversations with the man, gaining some insight to the period of time he was from.
He would not say out loud anything, not yet, he may need to talk soon however on what he was feeling. He looked at their newest member who had yet to endure what they had, three months of being here.
He wondered who would be next. There probably would be a next, that was sad thing.
Sam came to pay her respects to Edmund. With everything that had been going on she hadn't had time to reflect on his suicide. Though to be honest with herself, she wasn't that surprised that it had come to that for him. He'd been a gentleman; intelligent and courteous, and even a bit flirtatious with her, but he'd been a man very out of place, who had already suffered immense losses in his life. While she would remember him fondly, her mind was preoccupied with the current crisis and her concern for those still living on the colony.
"I'm glad the both of you came," Sweets greeted Sam and James, nodding to both of them solemnly. He didn't want to overstep his bounds here. He was hardly some sort of religious authority, and he knew that these people had no reason to trust him yet. But he had had to deal with a lot of grief in his few years as a psychologist for the FBI - murdered partners, wives with cancer, etc, and he felt reasonably qualified. More qualified to help with this than anything else on the colony.
Robin shuffled his feet a little. "So, uh..." he began, but found he didn't have anything to say. He glanced over at Sweets. "...I guess this is probably kind of weird for all of us," he said in the newcomer's general direction, as if by way of explanation. "I don't think any of us knew him really well. I mean, he and I talked a few times. And...... I read the book..." Yeah. That was a weird thing to think about. He trailed off, shuffled his feet some more. "...So I guess we should... I dunno... say some stuff?" The Boy Wonder gave the impression of being way out of his element.
