Date: April 18
Characters: The Doctor, open
Location: Observation deck
Summary: The Doctor arrives on the observation deck, minus companions, TARDIS, and vengeful Time Lords.
Warnings: Oh my giddy aunt None, although it is unusually gloomy for the Doctor, so don't see this as a precedent but an exception. :)

The Doctor was braced for the pain of it - his forced regeneration, the punishment that his own people saw fit to inflict on him for the crime of interfering. One moment he was pounding his fists desperately against the inside of the dark box they forced him into, and the next he was in a quiet, empty room, overlooking the stars. The Doctor hesitated a moment, then lowered his arms. Was it done? He raised his hands to his face, ran them roughly through his untidy mob of hair. "Feels the same," he muttered aloud to himself, patting his coat down. Same bones and blood and flesh. "Same voice," he confirmed, taking his handkerchief from his pocket and dabbing his brow with it.

Perhaps the Time Lords had changed their minds, had realized the punishment was too harsh for the crime. Hadn't they already done enough? Hadn't they taken the TARDIS, taken the knowledge of its operation from his mind, sentenced him to exile in a single place and time? Hadn't they taken Zoe and Jamie away and cut the very memory of him out of their minds?

"But this isn't Earth..." he observed to himself, striding over to the windows and peering out. No, no, this was something else entirely. He sized up the positioning of the stars, getting a rough estimate of his location. Near to the Earth, then, as far as space was concerned. Some kind of station or base, he thought. Suddenly his mind went back to the Space Wheel where he and Jamie had met Zoe. She would be back there now, with the people who only thought of her as a human calculator, who called her a freak and didn't ever stop to listen to her. He knew she would be alright, of course, she'd make her own way in the world somehow, but how sad that she couldn't have kept all the self-confidence and kindness and humor she'd learned on their adventures.
