This is the line up of Batfamily characters and books that I have found so far:
- Batman and Robin (Bruce and Damian)
- Nightwing (Dick)
- some title with Red Hood (Jason)
- Batwoman (Kate Kane)
- Batgirl (Barbara)
- Catwoman (Selena)
- Batwing (I haven't read any of his issues yet, and Google didn't regurgitate his name, so I'm not sure if he has one in canon yet?)
And I know that Cass will be Blackbat, but I'm unsure what title(s) she's to be in, though to my knowledge she is not headlining anything.
This of course leaves a couple of important people in limbo:
- TIM
- STEPHANIE
And who the fuck knows where Huntress is.
I am extremely confused by this list of characters. How can Barbara be Batgirl at the same time that Kate is Batwoman and Damian is Robin? That just does not make any sense, age-wise. I am crossing my fingers that the Batgirl issue simply starts further back in time in order to tell the story of Batgirl's transition from Barbara to Cass to Steph (because hey, Cass will still be in continuity, they would have to seriously re-write her backstory in order for her existence to even make sense) (...but mostly because the idea that they may be retconning Oracle -- and therefore Barbara's disability -- out of existence is pissing me off so fucking much).
We know Roy has both of his natural arms (he's in the book with Jason...and Starfire. IDEK you guys) -- so...is Lian alive? Has she even been born?
Jason is Red Hood, but it's unclear whether he died or not (though I would assume, with the popularity of the Under the Red Hood film, that his canon will likely be kept largely intact -- though considering that 2/3 of his team are redheads, Grant Morrison's selective canon-nesia will probably remain in place from that goof in B&R, thusly creating a team made entirely of redheads which I think is both lolcute and hilarious), and he's wearing a bat, which I assume means he is working under Batman? WHAT DOES THAT MEAN. DOES THAT MEAN HE DOES NOT KILL PEOPLE ANY LONGER? D: D: D: D:
Poison Ivy is on the Birds of Prey, and so is Katana. ...Um? I think there are some editors who did not realize that the Birds of Prey is supposed to be rostered with people who...have names of birds??
Half of these titles look like they take place in the near future, while some look like reboots. I just don't get it. If they think this ~reboot~ is going to be easier on new fans, they have another think coming, I believe.
In related news, Secret Six appears to be canceled entirely, and Bryan Q Miller (who writes Batgirl) has not been approached to write any of the 52 new titles (last I heard, anyway). Considering that in the past two months, these are two of only three DCU titles to place in the top 10 of the trade paperback bestseller's list, this sounds like a pretty stupid business decision! (the other title is Batman & Robin, which, while not being canceled, will be unrecognizable after the cast change from Dick!Batman to Bruce!Batman. seriously, shooting. themselves. in the foot.)
And I could be wrong, but I don't think Marcus To has been attached to anything yet, either. I AM GOING TO HOPE THAT SOMEHOW HE ENDS UP WORKING ON A RED ROBIN TITLE, AND THEY JUST HAVE NOT ANNOUNCED IT YET?? Maybe...Miller and To could work on some kind of Tim & Stephanie title, thereby getting the best of both words (except for how they will be sharing a title when currently they each have their own, but I would rather have them share than NOT have them at all).
Seriously, you guys, where are Tim and Stephanie. :'(
...God, I wonder what they're going to do to Kon and Karen. D: D: D:
If I continue with DC at all, it will only be in trades. I was so, so excited for the new Batwoman comic, too, but I just don't feel like investing in a brand new canon. :/
