What's going on:

- Yesterday was abbylee's birthday! YAY!! Last weekend bellwings made cupcakes in celebration. Awesome. I've been trying to come up with five things to comment with, and have a few things already, but not five yet. Hm.
- Today is the Q&A at lonelytartsclub. If you're on the fence about joining you should come on over and ask me questions! Also, tonight's SG-1 ( Read more... )

tart, birthday greetings, books

I ♥ Holly McNarland. I want to listen to it tomorrow.

(Jello shots!? Those aren't vegan.)

Did we have a time plan?

No problem! I love to share music. ;)

(well, technically, the doctor told her to cut red meat out of her diet, and pig can be classified as white meat, and Jen's a fake vegan anyway, so...yeah. also, there's no reason why she *can't* eat meat, other than because her doctor is a fucking moron. so. jello shots. which I likely won't even be having. :P)

Hm, I don't think so, not really. Jen and Mk are at the bar tonight, but I can call/email you tomorrow?

It's not meat anyway, it's collagen. (I always thought it was marrow, actually.)

I have a doctor's appointment at 3pm, so either try to call me before 1:30 or after 4:30.

Let me know what I should bring :)

...it's not a meat by-product? I thought it was gelatin made out of pig fat! Dude. Collagen's way grosser. D: Although, to be honest, I don't know what a 'vegan' can and cannot eat, so...MOOT POINT, LOL.

Will do!

It's usually pig and/or horse connective tissue. By which I meant it's not "red meat" even if it's from a "red meat" animal. So, not a meat by-product, but an animal by-product.

Yeah, totally totally not vegan friendly. Even kosher/parve jello is rarely vegan friendly, because it's made with something from fish. There's plant based gelatins, but they're even tougher to make gel. Seriously, you should see the difference between jello brand gelatin and the kosher stuff I grew up on. (I love kosher gelatin, not the fancy new stuff, but the older stuff that was always kind of liquidy, especially when you made it with fruit too, even if you halved the recommended amount of water. Although it can't make pretty shapes.)

p.s. preferred call before 1:30 so I know how to organize myself.

Ugh. I don't think I'm ever going to eat Jell-o again! *scrapes tongue* What do you know about Knox? I do prefer it to the Cosby brand...

I'll make sure to call before then. ;)

I have no idea about any kinds other than Jello and whatever the kosher stuff was that we had for family dinners that I can recognize the box but do not know the brand.

Seriously, anything from animals is gross if you think about it.

I don't really like meat, so this whole 'Jen's a vegan!' thing didn't really bother me. Except I don't really like vegetables either, and I'm allergic to lots of fruit, so there isn't a whole lot I can eat other than chocolate and bread. Which don't go together as well as one might think. Unless it's Nutella on toast - then it's awesome.

My mum used to make Knox Blocks, which was like Jello except it solidified better, and you ate it in squares like a brownie. I think she used Kool-Ade mix with it to give it flavour? I don't even know - I should ask her for the recipe or something.
