Hotaru can't hold back a cry of sympathy when she sees Sokka brought in. But immediately she steels herself; it won't help him if she wimps out. He's going to need all the healers he can get.
"What injuries does he have?" she asks Harper. Mentally she begins summoning all the strength she'll need for her powers.
Hotaru couldn't help adopting a hurt expression at Harper's harsh words; she knew he didn't mean it, but she can't help it.
Taking a tissue, Hotaru wiped away some of the blood at his temple, exposing a scrape there. She took a deep breath and held one hand hovering over the wound. A violet light appeared beneath her hand, and slowly the abrasion began to heal, blood receding and healthy skin knitting over the sore.
Laid down on the cot, Sokka' breath is still shallow. His parka is ruined - stained black with blood and singed in the center of his chest. His face is a mess of blood, bruises, and swelling, his neck still seeping blood, and when the excess is cleared away, they'll see why he bleeds.
His lip was split, the bruising obvious that he was cracked in the mouth. His nose bleeds, another punch there. And on either temple there are... carvings.
On the left temple, an "H." On the right, an "F."
Every finger of his right hand is broken, but he's lucid... enough. His head turns slightly when his name is called and through the bright light of the overhead in the infirmary, he can see the silhouette of his sister.
White light... she shines with it, bright and shining...
Like Yue.
There's a whimper caught in his throat and he lifts his hand to touch her, her arm her hand, lips moving but the sound is broken and nearly gone. He has a feeling even if he reached her, she'd only fade away.
Sokka's chest, once parka and tunic have been peeled away, starts out bruised terribly, purple and black, red as if slightly burned-- but it quickly begins to mend under Katara's 'bending.
His eyes follow her - his sister, his baby sister, Harth still had her necklace and he'd taken it from her, like he'd taken her purity, her life...
When his voice cracks again, there's a sound to it, a low, strained whisper, and he reaches out with his good hand to take hold of her wrist.
Hotaru smiled, as she couldn't exactly help eavesdropping on Katara's conversation.
She frowned a little as she healed the gash on Sokka's other temple. The wound was healed, but it still left a scar. It almost looked like a symbol of some sort, if she looked at it a certain way.
His eyes are starting to focus as the pain fades, but he's still light-headed, not quite there.
He blinks, his fingers running over her skin because... her skin is darkening. Not the way Yue's faded, but as if she was coming back into focus.
Back to life.
"...Katara?" His throat is healing, soft but not as cracked and hoarsed as before. His hand lifts, reaching for her face now, fingers running over her jaw. "...You're all right?"
There's hope there, in his eyes-- broken hope. He wants to believe, wants to so badly but if he's wrong, if she's not really there...
"Yeah," Hotaru chimed in. She added in a mock stern tone, "You almost gave us heart attacks, young man!"
She took another deep breath before tackling the bite mark on his neck. As with the gouges on his temples before, scar tissue started to appear. Hotaru bit her lip, concentrated harder. If the wound was going to scar, then it wasn't going to be a very visible one.
Then the healing was done, and suddenly Hotaru was gasping for breath, her legs like noodles. She hadn't felt this bad since her old life.
"I can't do anymore..." she whispered. "You're on your own from here, Katara."

He should have been there for her.

Sokka's fingers tighten around Katara's wrist, holding tight and he looks at her, eyes narrowed and dizzy.
"Didn't mean to, nukka, didn't mean to, I swear... wanted to protect you..."

The neck was next. Carefully Hotaru wiped away the blood that was there- and gasped.
There in his neck, above the bone necklace Sokka always wore, were two clearly defined holes. Puncture wounds.
Like he had been bitten.
