He's awake. And doodling. And looking cross. But when he hears the door open he blinks, and then grins at her. "Afternoon," he says, smiling. And it is afternoon. That internal sunlock never lies.
"Fine, fine," he says, wiggling his toes. "Still functional. Bit sore. I moved a little, but-- not much." To the chamberpot in the bathroom and back, because, y' know, a guy has to go!
"What about you? Keeping busy? Get the matresses distroed and a few more brought down? OR are we focusing on medicine and armaments right now?" Wouldn't suprirse him if they were; he'd approve, too.
"Pharmacy's pretty much emptied," Mel says, with a shrug. "Not sure if there's any weapons there at all. Mattresses are being sorted. I think everyone's got enough bedding, now, so I'm piling it up in 202 again.
"Watch went without incident. Met a couple more new people here. One of them's from the same world as Wash and the doctor. There's history there: they're not friends."
"That's bound to happen. If, say, my sister - or Admiral Zhao - comes through, you can expect heated fights with Zula and possible attempted murder with Zhao," Zuko says darkly. "Everyone will have their histories, their dark secrets, their lies and crimes. And we have no way of knowing, really.. unless you're a mind reader, anyway."
He shrugs, and then leans back in his seat. "We need to find more then just the pharmacy. I'm walking proof; our healers are -- there, but should anything happen..." He doesn't want Simon to be out in the cold with no tools and medicines.
Mel nods, glancing down at his leg. "Defences first, then we'll organise a search party for a hospital or something.
"It's not as bad as that," she says in reference to Natalie. "Just a petty fight over a past relationship. If it does interfere with things here, I'll have words. It shouldn't, though."
He nods to her; alright, that's fine. He can deal, and they can. "Good. I know you can handle it," he says, and trusts her to do the sensible thing. Isn't that beautiful? To be so trusted by the boss man?
Mel shakes her head. "Been talking to new people, mostly. We're getting more and more people that can't look after themselves, by the way. This isn't good."
"... no, it's not. Especially with-- packs of fifteen hungry magog on the street. I'm going to try and find out more from Harper about them, and--" he sighs. "We may neeed to scout for a more defensible location."
Not to mention? A larger one. At the rate of growth... people will neeed more then the building can provide safely.
Mel gives this some thought, and nods. "But I'm not sure there is a place this big around here. It'd be easily defendable if we moved everyone off the first floor and could use the stairs."
She's still bitter about moving down.
"We have enough basic supplies to last us for a bit, I think. So we can focus on defense and possible scouting for a bit."
"Maybe moving up a few floors is a good idea. But-- ease of escape will have be maintained somehow. If the fire escapes let us get down, they'll let things get up, too."
He sighs, rubbing his face. He's not sure WHAT to do, really. Frustrating.
A few stories, Zuko could manage. Aang could glide down. But the rest? Pretty boned.
"That might work, but-- what are we going to make them out of? That-- we've got somene ein the building that can conceivably make anything out o anything. I'm not sure how, but Harper has him in the engineering core," he uses a ship term, for lack of a better one, "So he might be able to help us... Hrmmm."
That's probably why she doesn't bother knocking, but pushes the door open slowly, peering in to see if he's awake.

Not if Zuko and Sokka can be friends, anyway.

"Everything else OK?"

"Seems that way. Quiet for now."
Little does he know about the next dead body and all.
"What about you? Anything else trickle down that needs attention, you think?" That he hasn't heard about yet.

"Ladders?" she suggests. "Rolled up ladders kept by the windows."
