He did this alone -- it was no one's business but his, really. He had let them go, not stood in their way, and now he wondered if he had erred, allowing them to go on this fool's errands.

So he sat at the table, looking at his maimed hands -- Percival said they could be mended, healed. The land, too. But-- now? Now, healing was not so important as being able to defend what they had against mental monsters and the vampires at large. So it was heavy-hearted he set pen to paper, and began to write :

Questers:

I understand that this missive may not reach you in the best of conditions. The wastes are long and the land is hard -- Pig may fly for some time before he finds you. But I trust he will find you, and that that he will bring your reply home.

Things here deteroriate. We have new enemies, new attackers. Our numbers have been swollen with new arrivals, but some of our defenders have fallen. We have sick people, weakness in our warriors, and our strength is faltering.

We need you back. I must ask you -- abandon the quest, and come home. I know this may be insulting, having more then once been asked to abandon my own mission, but-- for the lives of these people, for the safety of those who you care about and left behind... Come home.

We need you here.

There is both paper and pen with this missive-- secure it to Pig and return him to us, so that we might know where you are, how you are-- and when you might return to us.

He secured extra paper, a pen, and rolled it very carefully, before he secured it to Pig's skinny leg. He scritched the owl gently, listening to him chirr. "Be a good boy, Pig. We need them. So you have to find them. You can do that, right, Pig? Find them?"

The owl hooted once, twice and fluttered up to Zuko's shoulder, where he preened and groomed the boy's hair; together they walked outside, and Zuko nodded once.

"Bring 'em home, Pig."

The owl nipped his ear, affectionate, and then lifted his wings, beat then sharply, and was off.
