Johnny was making some attempts at socialibility. His buddy Bruce would be proud of him.
Also, there really wasn't much in his apartment. And it got *boring* after a while. So he was casually walking around in the common room, when he wasn't sitting, and resting his can on the chair by him. Occasionally his eyes seemed distant, but then they'd sharpened back on his surroundings a short time later.
