...When it isn't torn and stained beyond use, that is.

She sighs. "Yeah it does. Especially doing this by sight alone."

What the hell? Chinese characters as opposed to Roman letters?

As he drops into a seat.

"Because there's very little to read in English around here."

He reaches in his back pocket, and tosses her a much rumpled and well-read book of his own.

The Art of War, would you believe it?

She catches it and smiles faintly. "Are you letting me borrow this?"

"Sure."

He shrugs.

"Good reading, for this place."

She flips through the well-thumbed copy and nods. "I appreciate it. Once I'm done, I'll be sure to give it back. Thank you very much."

"And I found some comic books a while back."

A shrug.

"Stuff everywhere."

"But... nothing like psych books."

She half-mumbles the statement.

"Huh whuh?"

Confuse the poor kid, why dohncha.

"I want a psychology book or twelve." She's still mumbling, curling up into a defensive little ball.
