"I don't doubt that...so could everyone else. Please, I never meant to, oh hell. What am I supposed to say? I wanted a quick shag and I fell for you? I'm sure that sounds bloody brilliant."
She huffs out a sharp laugh and moves back, leaving her hands on his waist.
"It's a bad thing to have my favour, Daddy. You don't want it. Just let me go away and you...forget me. It's for the best, really."
Well, almost all of them.
Knives as well are strapped around her legs and her waist, and she has stakes in the side pockets of her fatigues.
"I came to say goodbye," she says from the doorway.

"Goodbye?"

"I told you I'd get you what you need for this place. I'm going."

He gazes at his hands for a moment, then up at her.
"Do you have to, Lara?
Reply
Such determination, such finality to it all. But she can't look into his eyes for more than a moment before turning away.
"I have to go."
Reply
"I... don't want you to leave."
Reply
She takes a step back and ducks her chin, not trusting herself to even look at him.
"get away from you."

Amazing how well the sound of a broken heart can be transmitted with a single syllable.
"I'm...sorry for having hurt you, then."
And there are tears, beginning.
Reply
God, don't cry.
"You didn't hurt me at all. Not a bit. I'm...I..."
She looks up and that's it. She closes the distance between them and cups his face in both hands.
"It's not safe for you if I love you. I'm trying to do the right thing," she whispers as she stretches up to kiss him softly.

"The world isn't safe. I can protect myself."

"I don't like to forget. I forget plenty already."
He tugs at one of her hands.
"Stay. You need ... to be able to relax. To be able to be happy. I... I think I can help you in that."
Reply
She doesn't.
It's just the acid fumes left over in the greenhouse...that's all.
"Daddy, I can't," she says softly, looking up at him, "Happy?"
Reply
Is all he says, gazing down at her.
"Happy."
Reply
Damn Hippie voodoo.
She nods slowly and lets him pull her along.
"I really wish I could...I was happy the other night."
Reply
If thats all it takes to be happy, he could make her happy five times a day, and keep her naked in the garden.
