Kaylee has been busy solving the escalator problem.
Runners have been screwed to the wall going up the staircase connecting the first and second floors, supporting a belt connected to a motor at the bottom that she's wired up to the main generator. Attached to this belt is a level and strong platform capable of taking any of the three wheelchairs currently in use around the apartments, their occupant, and one attendant. Buttons at the top and bottom of the staircase summon, stop and start the belt moving, and are positioned so that even daffodil can operate the machine safely.
Now she's standing at the base of the second staircase, debating whether they need to go higher, and wondering if she should go back to drawing up plans for that ship Mal wanted...
