"Hey."

There is a voice from a blond, who is pale and wan but young, coming from another bed. "Are you a mutant, little girl?"

Just curious, and all.

Daffodil frowns at her, forehead wrinkled.

"What's a mutant?"

"People with special powers. Born with 'em. You might not be.." she shrugs, a little. Depends on where she's from, Paige supposes. "Where are you from, sweetheart?"

Daffodil pauses for a moment, then smiles sunnily. "A long time ago, and a land far far away." It sounds like a rote answer, but it also sounds like the truth.

"And my name's Daffodil. What's yours?"

"I'm Paige. Nice to meet you."

... she's probably not from Earth, so Paige chocks up her answer to what it is. Weird, but not earth.

"Hello!" She grins.

"Why did you think I was a 'mutant'?"

"Cause of the flowers," Paige says as she points to the thorny bush struggling to get up from the floor. "That'd be something special, where I come from. Can everybody do it where you come from?"

Daffodil shakes her head.

"No. Just me. It was a christening present."

Oh. Christening.

Neat.

"I'd show you what I can do..." .... cept it would totally gross a little girl out. So maybe not. "I'm not feelin' so well. Maybe another time."

"Really?" Her eyes light up. "What can you do?"

"Turn into other things," she says. "I -- shed my skin. Kinda like a snake does."

"Ew," she said. "Gross. But very cool."

"Hey, I like my power!" Paige protests. It's not gross! A little weird, but not gross!
