He's in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Smack-dab in the middle of the current events, to be precise.
There's Mel with Ron, there's Sokka and Padme with matching expressions of numb shock, and then there's Monk, expression blank and face pale as the scene burns itself into his mind.
Seconds - which seem like hours in Monk's mind - pass. He then takes a step back, blinks a few tears away, and stands up tall as his expression changes to one of pure resolve.
There will be no more running and hiding from the detective, no more cowering and bumbling like a fool in the face of danger, no more letting people down. He has to work to protect everyone else; this is painfully obvious to him now.
The fact that it took something like this to finally build up Adrian's courage makes him want to kick and curse himself a thousand times over, but now is not the time for that. Instead, he silently trods into 202, takes a seat, and waits with a loaded gun at his hip.
If there's going to be another fight, then this time, he'll be ready and willing.
It's only a matter of time, now, before people start filing into 202, looking for comfort and an explanation.
