I--I think the one I have right now will work fine. If I have to... if I hit hard enough... I can leave welts, which should be discouragement enough.

Well, it may work for now, but the problem with wood is that it breaks. That's why I stopped using a spear back in 1400. Swords are nice... but for every day, I like frying pans. They're functional and usually non-fatal.
