Title: "Regional strips 10: A Dangerous Game"
Author: J.J.
Warning: I might have failed in portraying correctly the regions involved. If that's the case just tell me. Those were done out of love for the Italian regions, not with the intent to offend someone.
Notes: After drawing the characterization for the Italian regions I ended up having ideas for them and drawing LOT of strips about them so... here there's one. It's nowhere near to the APH standards but well, I'm not Himaruya-san...
Characters: Seborga (?), Liguria (Giovan Battista Vargas), Lombardia (Alberto Vargas), Valle d'Aosta (Simona Vargas), Veneto (Mario Vargas), Monaco (?)
Time: 2012.
Disclaimer: "Axis Powers Hetalia" belongs to Himaruya Hidekaz.
Hey, do I own something here? Oh yes, I own the plot and a sensible heart which would surely break if you give me harsh reviews... so please be honest but nice ok? Oh and the representation of the Italian regions are mine as well

What inspired this
Well, the main inspiration was Himaruya-san's strip about Monaco promising to go out with Seborga if he were to beat her at a game of cards.
Technically, since in Liguria there's one of Italy's most important casino, Seborga could have had chances to have a fair match with Monaco... but likely Himaruya-san didn't know or didn't care about it (after all the casino is in Liguria but not in Seborga) so Seborga had no chances against her.
As a result this strip in which the regions who own Italy's casinos force Seborga to play with them... with a Seborga that's not as good as them at playing.
Actually the regions involved should have been 4 as Veneto is maybe the most important casino owner as his own is supposed to be the oldest in the world... but since Lombardia and Liguria were for long time rivals with Veneto they didn't want him to play with them.
Insubria is a wannabe region in the northern part of Lombardia (consider her a microregion). Actually Lombardia's casino is in her part of Lombardia.
As for the other characters mentioned they're all places in which there was or was planned to build a casino, in particular:
Friuli and Venezia Giulia had been for long time very close to Veneto, which is why Lombardia fears they'll talk about the game with Veneto.
Pisa, better known as the ex republic of Pisa, is a region of Toscana. There's also a long standing rivalty even between Pisa and Liguria.
The game played in the beginning is the Italian card game, Scopa. Ciappachinze, better known as Cirulla (in Ligurian Cirolla) is Liguria's variant, which is apparently very popular in his home (there are many, many variants of Scopa).
Liguria also likes to play the Belòta, his own variant of the Belot.
He playes both with a deck of card with the Ligurian suit (pretty similar to the french one). In case you don't know in Italy there are around 16 tipes of suits (nearly 1 for each region...)
If there are 4 players they generally play it in teams of 2 people each, though it's possible to play it 1 against all the others.
The title refers both to the fact that if Seborga plays he's going to lose all his money but also it's a veiled reference to how Seborga deals with his situation.
Basically Seborga is being bullied into playing by Liguria so, to get out from this unpleasant situation he calls for a foreigner's help (Monaco).
This sort of strategy was used many times in Italy by cities and smaller nations bullied by cities/nations that were so big and powerful compared to them they had no hope to defeat them.
The downside of it is that the foreign nation involved, more often than not, would become the new bully.
In Seborga's case Monaco won't bully him but if Liguria is going to lose his money, Seborga will be directly involved as Liguria is his boss (his region) and therefore will end up demanding more money from Seborga (or paying him less, do your pick).
In short, in order not to lose his money NOW Seborga risks losing his money AFTER.
The clothes the boys are wearing are courtesy of Lombardia... or better are being sold by a shop in Lombardia (please, don't sue me, I'm moneyless). Valle d'Aosta is wearing a Valentino's dress that's obviously red. Liguria though is wearing a real Italian Marine uniform. Monaco should be wearing a French dress... or at least I hope...
Oh and Liguria knows Monaco because in the past she was his colony, he was the one to build her castle from around which Monaco will develop and also the ancestors of her royal family were originally 'his kids' (people from his home).
Italia's proverbs of the day
Scarta frusci (=carte senza valore) e fa' primera (=combinazione che da punti a Scopa).
Get rid of bad playing card and try to have the seventy.
Non bisogna mai giocare con chi propone il gioco.
You must never play with the one that proposed the game.
Giocare e perdere lo sanno far tutti.
Everyone knows how to play and to lose.
