When Sanghyuk’s lips brush against his as everyone starts to scream wishes and welcomes the new year with the tick of the clock onto midnight, Taekwoon tunes out everything, time standing still. He doesn’t hear them anymore, the cheers and the excited words of everyone else around; it’s only Sanghyuk, his scent, his warmth, his lips that Taekwoon can think of, and his mind feels like it’s spinning with a warped sense of reality.
Sanghyuk presses closer, just so that his hands come around the back of Taekwoon’s waist as he pulls him in, moves his head so their lips melt together just so much more that Taekwoon’s blood is prickling under his skin. Taekwoon’s hands are limp at his side, fingertips trembling because he doesn’t know what to do with them, can’t think. Sanghyuk tastes just a little like beer on the edges of his tongue, just enough that Taekwoon knows he’s not entirely sober, but it mixes with something that’s just so Sanghyuk, and Taekwoon can’t help but want more.
His hands come up to lace his fingers behind the back of Sanghyuk’s neck, holding him feebly; Taekwoon knows he has no strength right now, instead trusting Sanghyuk to hold him in place and keep him from falling. Their lips move together, soft and languid, and Taekwoon’s breath comes just a little harder when Sanghyuk’s tongue swipes over his bottom lip in a shy question for more.
He gives in, as he always does with Sanghyuk, parting his lips just enough for their tongues to touch and exchange a few fleeting brushes; he can feel the way Sanghyuk’s lips form into a smile against his own, can feel the softness of his skin under his fingertips as he trails them over the back of his neck just under the base of his hair. It’s electrifying, and if someone would ask him how long they’ve been standing like this he wouldn’t know.
The cheers of their names and the wolf whistles only register when Sanghyuk pulls back, cheeks warm and pink and eyes glimmering in the dim lights of the room; Taekwoon is still not back down on earth unable to tear his eyes away from Sanghyuk as the only thing his mind processes is that he’s so fucking beautiful. Taekwoon swallows the lump in his throat as Sanghyuk smiles at him, and this time it’s shy and embarrassed as Taekwoon sees his lips move to tell the others to shut their mouths. He couldn’t agree with him, more, but the words still aren’t ready to form in his throat.
“Happy New Year, hyung,” he hears Sanghyuk whispers into his ear as he leans in, and it’s only then that Taekwoon jolts out of his trance and realises it all. His eyes widen, and the blush that’s spreading on his cheeks is so furiously red that he can feel his head throb and his ears burn. His eyes meet Hakyeon’s, smug and happy and Taekwoon half feels the need to walk over and wipe the smirk off of his face. Instead he turns back to Sanghyuk to bury his head in the fabric of his shirt in embarrassment, and he can hear the low chuckle it earns him in his ear.
“You’re so cute,” Sanghyuk mumbles with a soft press of his lips to the crown on Taekwoon’s head, and Taekwoon stands up to fan himself with his hands. Sanghyuk reaches up, and Taekwoon instantly feels comfortable and warm with just a look at the smile that’s unwavering on his face, and he lets the younger take his hand and intertwine their fingers. He knows that he’s lost then, that he’s completely surrendering himself over to Sanghyuk, but he doesn’t care; Taekwoon squeezes Sanghyuk’s hand gently, the tips of his fingertips still trembling, and it only registers now that the new year has started nothing but Sanghyuk in the crooks of his mind.
