Takamichi has always loved to read, admiring strong sweeps on unblemished white.
When he was young, and calligraphy was but a mass of inky squiggles, he would seize a brush - and paint. Thick blots on creamy paper, until it became wet and limp and tore down the middle. Clean in two.
He hungers for knowledge. He is gentle, because it serves him well. Soft-spoken, just as learned men should be.
But there’s nothing in the books about love. It escapes him like ancient texts - kanji flaking onto his fingertips.
Perhaps they are similar, the scrolls and he. Once unraveled, both crumble.
