So I've discovered these two huge songwriting competitions. The winners for one of them all had degrees in composition and stuff, which was a bit off-putting. But the other one was won, last time, by some kid from Auckland, and has a teen section. And this girl's songs - she won the grand prize and also a first place in the teen category - suck. Well, no - they are quite competent and pleasant enough - but certainly not prizewinning stiff. Thing is, she got $US10,000 cash; $US20,000 to spend on gear; AND a full Berklee scholarship including tuition, room & board, all the rest of it.
See, the reason this is exciting, is because I think I write better songs than she does. I think I write better songs than any of the other winners I've listened too, as well. So I'm going to enter. And if you fancy yourself somethign of a songwriter, you should too.
