I just feel like since Facebook, most of my friends don't really call to talk on the phone either. They just assume I saw their Facebook post. Even my friends who I don't see very often. Maybe it's also the growing up and getting jobs and getting busy thing. But I feel like since college, I haven't had an honest conversation with someone that wasn't one of the following: What did you do today? Did you see Silver Linings Playbook? Was it good? Good. Where do you want to go for dinner? Person A and Person B broke up. I never liked him/her anyway.
Everything is surface level. Nothing matters. The questions don't matter. The responses don't matter. No one is learning anything about anyone else and no one is learning anything about themselves. The only time I come close to honest conversations is with my writing workshop group or with my boyfriend (who is also a member of said group), and it's usually just the things that come out in discussing someone's story.
Anyway, if you would like a penpal or would like to begin your secret cabal of letter-writing women, I'm would be game.
